Senate Bill 213, Introduced by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), was read in the United States Senate and sent forward for review by the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation on January 21, 2015.

The bill, named the Look-Alike Weapons Safety Act of 2015, if passed would amend the current Federal Energy Management Improvement Act of 1988.

The changes made would prohibit the manufacturing, entering into commerce, shipping, transporting, or receiving any toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm unless the permanent color of the entire exterior surface is white, bright orange, red, or another specified predominantly bright color. Currently, the 1988 law requires imitation firearms to have an orange plug inserted at the tip of the barrel.

Close examination of the bill reveals two loopholes for players to consider. First, the bill prevents the manufacturing, sale, importation, or transportation for commerce of guns that do not meet the color requirements. However, it does not specifically prohibit the possession of guns in colors such as black, tan, or camouflage.

Second, the bill does offer a waiver to purchase guns, which are not the listed colors, so forth that they will be for theatrical, movie, or television purposes. Theoretically, this could be a loophole for players who create movies and maintain an active Youtube or social media presence.

I will be monitoring this bill for changes and keep everyone updated.

Ugh. I hate these stupid bills. They aren't gonna help anyone and cause more problems safety-wise than just leaving airsoft as is.

So that means we can keep the guns we already have before the bill?

George Washington new what he was doing. If he were president now we'd be able to have RPGs and Tanks. I just never got why terrorists can have RPGs but US citizens can't.

@Falco That's why they are terrorists... I really hope you are joking. If so I laughed with you... If you aren't joking I laughed at you.

Can we please flush the government now? Hell, I call for a full government reset every fifteen years.

This is just one more thing by the controling, power-hungry bigwigs up in office. Such bull, infringing on our property left and right. One day, this crap won't be stood for any longer. I hope I live to see that day.

I'm so glad that the government is devising brilliant solutions to devastating issues. And that spraypaint doesn't exist.

See I knew is was going to come to this That's why I opened a new thread. Instead of the Gov. doing this they need to look at the bigger picture and stop giving our rights and arms to terrorist factions. Leave the little guys alone.

Am I really going to have to be breaking the law just to have a hobby? I don't know what to say to that...

@Falco You can have a tank. You can also buy (in no particular order) Mortars, cannons, AAA guns, Full Auto weapons, Short Barreled Rifles, explosives, etc, etc. All you need to do is jump through the ATF's hoops! Last I heard Suppressor paperwork turnaround was about 30 days and Class III firearms at just a few months.

I hope it won't come to it, but I have a feeling that this bill will pass. I want everyone to be informed on how this bill works and what it does change. A lot of people have been saying online that they will be "breaking the law", "how will they get guns", they are "taking away their guns," and this isn't exactly the case... Yet... I will explain everything so everyone knows exactly what is going to happen if it passes.

I don't see this turdball of a bill making it too far, but it's not unlikely that it will.

Hypothetically if this passes, it says that gun has to painted with a "permanent color of the entire exterior surface is white, bright orange, red, or another specified predominantly bright color." So what if under the worse case scenario that this bill does somehow pass, we could manufacture tan, black, and camo sleeves that could fit on the receiver of the weapon. Then when you are transporting the weapon you could have all the colored parts on the gun and when you get the field/event you could swap a tan/black/camo kit to slip on top of the stock parts that couldn't be switched(stocks rails etc could be switched). We could also get the NRA to lobby against this bill. They will shoot down any bill having anything to do with any kind of gun restriction. Just some thoughts

You won't need those. This only effects the manufacture/importation and transportation for sale. Once it is in the hands of the consumer, it doesn't cause you any issues. This is regulatory law. I will be doing a follow up and video tomorrow explaining everything. Watch for it and share it.

How about this: maybe the government should go along and ban every product that helps the US economy, pass massive tariffs blocking all trade, and basically make everyone trade instead of buy. Because apparently airsoft dosent bring in enough revenue to keep their interest in maintaining that peice of the economy... CAN'T THEY JUST FUCKING INCREASE TAXES ON THEM INSTEAD OF OUTRIGHT FUCKING BANNING THEM?! "Oh let's NOT make profit and just collect a fat ass check every month for sitting on our asses passing useless acts that hurt US citizens!"

@Wraith531

Turnaround for the forms for NFA items (suppressors, short barreled rifles and short barreled shotguns) is a month? Yeah, right. Maybe on paper. In practice, it can easily take a year or more. And of course, the ATF loves to arbitrarily decide what does and does not constitute an NFA violation (see the recent Sig pistol brace controversy).

As far as fully automatic weapons, well, yeah, in theory. In practice, the asinine laws make automatic weapons the sole domain of the obscenely rich. In 1986, the Firearm Owner Protection Act was passed (oh, the irony), and at the last second, the Hughes Amendment was snuck in.

That closed the machine gun registry, and as a direct result, prices skyrocketed. See, everyone wants an automatic weapon (because they are SO. MUCH. FUN.), but now, not only does it have to be from '86 or before, but it has to be one of the few weapons that was on that registry. As a direct result, a cheap, sheet metal POS that shouldn't even be worth $300 (such as a Mac-11) will set you back 5 grand or more. And a quality, historically significant weapon (such as a BAR or a Thompson submachine gun) can easily run for more than 20 grand.

@MPDDHSSOGV4

How in the world can you think this will pass? It's just a California Democrat introducing a bill so that she can tell her constituents, "See! I tried!". Nothing more. Given the massive Republican majority, no gun control bill would pass right now, so what makes you think a clearly idiotic bill about toy guns would?

I just submitted my letter to my local rep. Not in Cali, but I do NOT want that happening in Cali or anywhere else! But especially Cali, living on the West coast makes it one of the major areas for MILSIM events for me.

This lady needs to realize that making airsoft guns more identifiable would hurt more than help. A responsible airsofter is not going to get shot by the police, only idiots do that and if they are stupid enough to do it they deserve it. So what, if a kid points an orange gun at a cop, the cop knows that he's just a stupid kid with a toy gun and therefore spares his life? If this passes we should come back to ask her some more questions when that gun turns out to be loaded with .45 caliber.
