I need some help picking out a gun for my 11 year-old son. He has played in paintball wars for several years now but has never played in an airsoft battle. However, a family we know is setting up a monthly airsoft battle on their property for the kids (ages 11-15). They have 3+ acres of woods on a mountain side with fallen trees, gullies, and rock outcroppings. I know my son will love playing with the other boys and I would really like for him to participate.

I have absolutely no idea what kind of gun to buy for him. Whatever I buy, I want it to be a quality gun that is going to work without problems and not break. Please no spring guns because he doesn't like pumping it every time he shoots. Most of the boys have semi/fully automatic electric guns so I would like to find the same for my son. He wants something that holds plenty of ammo so pistols are out. One of the rules for the battle is that your gun cannot shoot more than 400 fps. My son is around 80 lbs. so size and weight of the gun should definitely be a consideration. I am willing to spend somewhere around $150 for the gun, but less would be great if I can get a good quality gun for that price. As for the style of the gun -- I HAVE NO IDEA! I'm a woman and that isn't my area of expertise. That's why I am here asking you guys for help. lol

Thanks,
Elizabeth

UnknownSoldier again with some more helpful tips! If you have any questions, I'm here to help!

Now on to the post: reloading. Most airsoft players know how to reload: unload your old mag and jam in a new one. Well, I'm here to tell you that there are actually certain types of reloads: two types to be specific. They have what is called a "Tactical Reload," which most airsoft players use even if they don't know what it is, and what is called a "Combat Reload."

The "Tactical Reload" is the most common that you will use in airsoft. A "Tactical Reload" is performed properly when done in this manner:
1. Bring out a fresh magazine at the ready.
2. When you feel as if your magazine is getting low on ammo, unload the mag from your weapon.
3. SAVE the magazine in a pocket or pouch on your vest.
4. Replace the old magazine with the fresh one.

That simple! Not too hard to learn, and as you practice it you'll get faster and faster at doing it.

Now the "Combat Reload" is of a different genre. Most airsoft players WON'T use this reload, unless you don't want to see your magazine again. This is usually used in life or death situations.
1. Bring out a fresh magazine at the ready.
2. When you feel as if your magazine is getting low on ammo or it is completely out, unload the mag.
3. ABONDONE the mag.
4. Replace the old magazine with the fresh one.

In a combat situation, you need to get as many shots as you can at your enemy, while in a tactical, you need to save as much ammo as you can. Both are effective if used properly.

That's all for now! Hope this helps with some of my fellow airsofters.
UnknownSoldier out.

I myself am not a noob or beginner airsofter, I just am in need of a relatively cheap sidearm. I'm on a tight budget because I do not have a job so money IS a factor. I already have a shotgun, but I can't carry that with my hydration backpack on my back. I'm going to a big skirmish in 2 weeks so I do not have "time" to save up for a gbb...and I really don't want one either. I'm open to anything ( even crosman :P) so please help...

So I finally decided to pack all my paintball gear into the closet and picked up a JG Tactical AK47 from Cragislist for dirt cheap.

I've done some research on this thing, finally found out what brand it was because I bought it used without the box and I had no idea who made it. And watching some videos on this thing, I think I am missing the hop-up adjuster, I pull the slide back and it looks like I am missing that piece.

I charged up the battery and did some dry firing, and it seems to operate normally, I ordered some ammunition for it and it will be here in a few days.

My questions are:

What is the purpose of the hop-up adjuster?

Where can I get replacement parts, such as listed above?

The bi-pod and scope will be coming off because it looks really lame. lol

I've done alot of research on this thing because at first I didn't even know what brand it was. Because I bought it used without the original box or instruction manual.

Anyways, mine came without a stock. And watching some videos on this thing... I pull the slide back and I think I am missing the hop-up adjuster.
I charged up the battery and dry fired it a couple times and seems to be functioning pretty well. I ordered some ammunition for it so I can actually fire it soon.

I've been looking for a place to buy replacement parts and came up with nothing. Anybody know of a good place to get some replacement parts for this thing?
I've looked into it, It seems pretty good. I just started playing at a local CQB place.
I was hopelessly outclassed, so now i hope this will do a little better.
The limit at our CQB place is 300 FPS, so i might have to get the spring cut at a local store. So, do you guys think this is a good fit for what i need, a good starter gun, and can you recommend any video review, because i'm having issues finding good ones.
