DefaultOpen Field Tactics

Hey guys, UnknownSoldier here, and as you may not know, but a couple of my friends and I are working on creating an airsoft team. The closest field as of right now is PSI Xtreme Sports down in Clearwater. After reviewing some pictures of their field and reading about how they do things, it seems like a perfect place for us to play, but as of far we have had no training in open field environments. The field is an open field (duh) with wooden "houses." It has fallen upon me to be the team leader/tactical advisor, and here's what I've gotten out of what we need to work on:

1. Open field combat (no brainer)
2. Close quarters combat for the wooden houses
3. What to do when under fire in an open field
4. How to manuever as a team in open field environments
5. How to manuever as a team in close quarters (wooden houses)

Any other suggestions or tactics we should cover?

I'd say in open fields best offense is the best defense. Fire superiority and long range. That's all I know, just make sure you guys aren't bunched up.

kinda along the same lines as mfairtap said, long range...at least have one or 2 people on your team(also depending how big your team is) setup as the dm. That way if you do fin yourself in an open field enviroment you will have some distance on the opposing team, take some shots if possible. OR you can have a recon team scout the area before your whole team ends up in an ambush. And as always communication is key. Which brings up a good point. What kind of com system are you guys using? I am lookin for one myself.

We have four to five guys in our squad, one of them is off and on, he's from out of town but comes visits occasionally. As of far we have two long range guys: our sniper and myself. I use an M14 and have a P90 as a backup, but for the most part I like using my
P90. We are right now just using walkie-talkies, nothing too crazy or long range. Here's what I've got written down so far to practice:

In open field, have one to two guys covering long range while the main force moves in staggard formation. If shot at, either find cover or go prone. Don't move simultaniously, we could have three guys move: one on the left, one on the right, one in the middle. The middle moves up, covers some ground, gives covering fire while the guys on the left and right move up at an even farther distance, then they cover the guy in the middle as he moves up at an even farther distance.

Close quarters: stay as a group, at the entrance, breach and clear, stay together and search each room one at a time.

Btw shadowops I like your profile pic

yeah communication is very important in this situation.
Another thing that can help is practicing formations while moving down open field. Id suggest staggered (spread out) or a wedge formation so you can put down fire in any direction. Its up to you to decide where the long range weapons should be positioned but make sure they are spread out so not one side lacks range.

Well I'm just using a spring TSD M14, but even with all the bad comments from people here, it works like a charm. Shoots straight and accurate, shot a buddy of mine right between the eyes, literally. The iron sights are pretty good on it, thats just what I use, but if you want to put a sniper scope I would recommend either a red dot or a very large scope. The scope I bought for mine is a good scope, but on the M14 the eye relief is only like a dot, so I have it on my P90 now and it's amazing. The M14 I have is only like $35, but they also have a JG AEG for around $120.

In the open you need to always be in the prone position. It gives the opposition a lot smaller target to hit. To clear the rooms two of your guys move in and hug the walls, while the other two give supporting fire through the door way.

i airsoft in a open field a lot, key thing is knowing were exactly your team is, i play at night so it gets hard to know who is on what team. But if you play during day it should be that hard. Also in fields a ghillie suit could be nice, pick right color, get them for about 70-100 bucks. I say the key thing is camo and steath. You want to walk some distance about 10-30 feet then wait a minute. Find a big tree or anything big on cover that you can defend. After slowly making your way there, then hold there for 5-10min and make them bring the fight to you

Leap Frogging aka Bumping is also a great technique to work on.
