"Listen, if you're going to wear RANK, make sure you're NOT associating yourself with the military unless you have EARNED it." (SSG)

if you have airsoft experience then you should understand that in the cases of large teams, a ranking system serves a little more than ego and that it helps in the organization of the team in exactly the same way as it does the military.

so do you suggest that we as airsofters come up with a universal ranking system from scratch and design insignia to denote those ranks all for fear of upsetting a real soldier who only assumes we play airsoft because we don't have the spine to join up?

if there was such a game where players simulated corperate buy-outs and hostile take-overs (that would really get the adrenaline pumping...) i wonder if some guy in Goldman Sachs would be upset if a player achieved a rank of CFO...

what do you propose we do in order to not disrespect the the military and yet organize large numbers of people with differing levels of responsibility?

"Airsoft for combat training

Many law enforcement departments, military units, and protective security companies are turning to airsoft for an effective, low cost, anti-inflammatory, and safe means of force-on-force training. The low-impact projectiles allow military/law-enforcement/protection agencies to train anywhere - schools, businesses, airplanes, etc. Training in real-life environments conditions allows them to deal with real life situations and improve their skills. The most common airsoft gun law enforcement departments, military units, and protective security companies use would be the Systema Professional Training Rifle. The inexpensive ammo lets military/police train more frequently and repeat drills dozens of times in each session with minimal budgetary impact, to the relief of taxpayers. Since minimal protective equipment is required, this allows them to train with their actual duty gear and equipment. Using airsoft guns for training minimizes liability to both trainees, instructors and by-standers, as well as property owners."

perhaps you haven't used airsoft weapons for training but thats probably a matter of time, unless you are no longer serving...

to all military/ex-military and civilians that think airsoft is disrespectful to the military please read:

as you know if you have read this whole thread, my father was a soldier, he would give me and the people under his command a piece of good advice (he probably heard it somewhere but it's still sound...):

"Don't come to me with a problem, come to me with a solution..."

if you can't come up with a reasonable, intelligent alternative to the way airsoft is played or looks that will not cause disrespect to the military then refrain from making ignorant criticisms on this forum until you have. thank you very much for your cooperation and we look forward to hearing any intelligent solutions you may have.

thanks guys, i would like to say it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it. but the reality is i really enjoy dismantling their ill prepared low blows, they just make it so easy i can't help myself. (if they think they are coming to prey on the weak, and come to the fight ill prepared then they deserve a slap. even if it does come from "a den of faggotry" dressed up soldiers playing with toy guns... man, thats gotta be embarrassing!)

but you shouldn't encourage me, i got a whole bag of "bite me!" just sitting here waiting for the next idiot and if this thread goes on much longer i'm going to start annoying myself!

I have over six years of airsoft experience under my belt. That may not be a lot, but it works to my benefit while playing. I play with an organized team that can work on a rank structure, but often does not due to the experience our team has.

I can't say it any other way: if you're going to wear rank, don't wear it with military name tapes unless you've earned that right to wear it.

Heck, I wear staff sergeant ranks when playing, but I wear them with our team name tape. I've only earned Private First Class (or Specialist if you want to get technical... I should have gotten that stinking waiver...).

It's simple, really. I just don't like seeing people running around wearing captain ranks while wearing US Army name tapes or the like.

thanks for elaborating on the issue SSG, when put into that context, it seems a lot more reasonable.

interestingly, i could have got all my military gear through my dad for free but he actually had an even more extreme stance, as far as he was concerned, nobody, even military, should wear military uniforms of any kind, even just a pair of DPM pants on the weekend... unless on duty. but thats because of fears of being identified as a soldier by the IRA. having served in Northern Ireland he's a little sensitive about that...
