Yea sniping is really hard, and it is really almost impossible with a stock gun such as a BAR-10. Also I know this from first hand experience. Last game I went to I used a stock BAR-10. In a game where your facing all AEG's you automatically become a sniper, that is one who engages from a distance. You basically are slammed into that role as if you try to get up close you usually get picked off by AEG's. I spent the day flanking positions and when I finally got in range I'd get picked off. Facing off with a M1A1 Thompson at close range in the open I was sure I would win, surprisingly the SMG hit me and I missed, I was like "what"! Not to say I didn't have any glory moments or kills, but at the end of the day I was like, this BAR-10 ain't a sniper rifle.

well this from my beginner point of view, but I disagree with everyone saying that you need a gun with uber range and accuracy to be a sniper. It's been made clear in this topic that no matter what gun you get or how much you upgrade it, its still just an airsoft gun, and will never be able to shoot from the extremely long ranges that snipers shoot from. So IMO the sniper should be used for recon as previously mentioned.

However my opinion of a sniper taking on a hunter role wouldn't involve shooting from very far away. As long as you can stay hidden, make a shot without compromising your position, and know when it would be better to try and return fire or retreat, your distance doesn't really matter. As a matter of fact it would probably be smarter to get as close as possible to the enemy while still remaining in a good amount of cover to guarantee that whatever shots you do make, hit.

So there's my $0.02

Well what I was doing wasn't really sniping. It was more guerrilla style, sneak up, hit, and run. Also to say, I could have done the same thing with an AEG.

Snipers are a huge intel gathering advantage, they also will sketch their surroundings for future reference...They are trained to notice things that are out of the ordinary and this can sometimes take days.. When they strike, if they do strike, they will most likely strike a very important figure such as the head of OPFOR command and usually when this happens it happens with 3 or 4 snipers shooting a diferent area on the target at the same time.. This causes confusion as well as being very intimidating. Especially when the guy you take orders from just basically dissapeared . this is however rare. Snipers provide a lot of info for in coming forces and air attack....

To tell you the truth guys when I first came into airsoft I wanted to be a sniper not just an airsoft sniper but a REAL SNIPER like SF Sniper thing so naturally being a boy raised to hunt with his model 7 i know my way around a rifle but i did a little research and to me their is another role of the sniper. In a wooded enviroment a sniper can be an unseen AEG from outta no where it may have the same range with upgrades and what not but if you cant see the sniper then you cant shoot them so they can be practical but like in the begining of the thread most people are not patint.

That's kind of what I was getting at. As long as you stay out of sight your golden. And as you continue to say, an AEG could also be used for this purpose, and in fact, it might even be the smarter way to go since it will more likely than not have a full-auto switch in case things get messy.

Thats what a true airsoft sniper is not the way they are putting it like a long range sniper but an unseen close or far range marksmen.
