Kicking this sniper build off with a bone stock JG BAR-10 with China glass i bought on sale from ASM for $90 shipped. nice feeling gun, smooth bolt pull with very minimal wobble. nice finish on most parts. mag release is a bit 'touchy' but read on as i have fixed this. the scope is fine. i like that this gun is light weight, but even with the scope, rail and rings, it all adds up. by the end of a 20 round magazine and shooting from standing position, my arm gets a slight shake.
taking a break from Gas and AEG teching and trying my hand with BASR's. The twist is, I'll try to use as much stock parts as possible. the goal is to get torso hits @ 220ft, which i feel is realistic.
I went with the bar due to it being the cheapest VSR clone with the highest parts compatibility. proven to have a strong pinned cylinder and head. weaknesses is the trigger sears which may cause slam firing, and also the right hooking hop up.
baseline, it chronos @ 373 fps. Accuracy with 0.2's was spot on, getting headshots @ 150ft. Now with 0.3's, the hop was maximum and bbs start curving right. i'd have to cant the rifle to the left 15 degrees to make it float true without wind. this is due to the torque flexing the hop up arm.
So far, I have tried to do some basic DIY mods to see if they actually hold true in adding performance from what i could read on ASF. The air brake mod did nothing. swiss cheesing the piston did nothing. Teflon taping the cyclinder head did nothing. Teflon tape and floss to the bucking did nothing. What i did discover and confirmed by another member on ASF is the grease they used (lots of grease on the piston and in the cylinder head threads) increased FPS by 15, which i lost.
Other mods i did was polishing the inner barrel with brasso. cant tell any trajectory improvements as of yet. Also, I 3d printed a concave nub and glued it on the ground down stock arm. Now i can lift heavier bbs easily, although i still notice a slight right curve. Along with the concave nub, I did a flat hop on the stock bucking. we'll see the true test once my 0.43's come in.
other non-performance mods i did:
Cerakote air cure the trigger guard and bolt sniper grey (very fitting name)
3d print a mock muzzle brake
3d printed a Magazine pull (on thingiverse, maybe the best mod i ever designed, yet so simple)
