Trigger Air gun Wood Grey Gun barrel

Kicking this sniper build off with a bone stock JG BAR-10 with China glass i bought on sale from ASM for $90 shipped. nice feeling gun, smooth bolt pull with very minimal wobble. nice finish on most parts. mag release is a bit 'touchy' but read on as i have fixed this. the scope is fine. i like that this gun is light weight, but even with the scope, rail and rings, it all adds up. by the end of a 20 round magazine and shooting from standing position, my arm gets a slight shake.

taking a break from Gas and AEG teching and trying my hand with BASR's. The twist is, I'll try to use as much stock parts as possible. the goal is to get torso hits @ 220ft, which i feel is realistic.

I went with the bar due to it being the cheapest VSR clone with the highest parts compatibility. proven to have a strong pinned cylinder and head. weaknesses is the trigger sears which may cause slam firing, and also the right hooking hop up.

baseline, it chronos @ 373 fps. Accuracy with 0.2's was spot on, getting headshots @ 150ft. Now with 0.3's, the hop was maximum and bbs start curving right. i'd have to cant the rifle to the left 15 degrees to make it float true without wind. this is due to the torque flexing the hop up arm.

So far, I have tried to do some basic DIY mods to see if they actually hold true in adding performance from what i could read on ASF. The air brake mod did nothing. swiss cheesing the piston did nothing. Teflon taping the cyclinder head did nothing. Teflon tape and floss to the bucking did nothing. What i did discover and confirmed by another member on ASF is the grease they used (lots of grease on the piston and in the cylinder head threads) increased FPS by 15, which i lost.

Other mods i did was polishing the inner barrel with brasso. cant tell any trajectory improvements as of yet. Also, I 3d printed a concave nub and glued it on the ground down stock arm. Now i can lift heavier bbs easily, although i still notice a slight right curve. Along with the concave nub, I did a flat hop on the stock bucking. we'll see the true test once my 0.43's come in.

other non-performance mods i did:

Cerakote air cure the trigger guard and bolt sniper grey (very fitting name)
3d print a mock muzzle brake
3d printed a Magazine pull (on thingiverse, maybe the best mod i ever designed, yet so simple)

Quick question, is ASM on reddit

ASM means Airsoft Megastore or usually the Airsoft Mechanics forum.

Gun is currently apart about to get an AA m150 implanted tomorrow AM...

but more about the "Magazine assist" i designed. heres the link on thingiverse if you want to print. LINK

From the factory, the magazine is only held in by a front latch and a rear shelf. you must push the magazine only from the front to seat and click in the mag. Once clicked in, the button will rise a little. If you accidently brush/swipe the front of the gun, it will fall out. if you look at the button wrong, it will fall out. I initially wanted to just make a magazine release protector to "recess" the button. THEN in the process, I decided to make a magazine 'kicker' so you can start the extraction with a gloved finger to flick it out. THEN i figured, why not also add an enlarged circular pad so i have a larger pushing surface to seat the magazine from the front. the side wings are an added bonus to grip the magazine better when pulling out (she said it). These features together, you can now extract and change the magazines without looking down. very slim and low profile. I really wasnt a fan of the 550 cord mag pull, which members on ASSF most commonly did. my print would attach with double sided 3m tape.

Heres a pic of the hop up nub I designed. The recess is made for a 6mm curve. the hight is high enough to add more hop to heavier BB's (past 0.3g)

Once you shave the 2 'fangs' off the stock hop arm, just super glue this to the same area. its a bit Longer for more contact, of course once you shave the nub off the stock rubber.

Update: AA M150 installed (stock trigger group, spring guide, piston, cylinder and head). The spring I noticed is about 1 inch longer than stock spring (no issue whatsoever compressing it, comparing to AEG springs), with slight noticable rigidity. The bolt pull is only a bit harder but im pleased i can pull it easily! action is smooth, and no issues in bolt push!

Chrono: on 0.2g getting 490fps with +-5fps variance. Im guessing i MAY be getting a bucking leak. we'll see. on 0.3g's getting 425fps. 0.43g's TBD

Trigger pull is noticably harder but I adjusted the pull so short (any shorter, the trigger wont even move), its hard to notice. The 0.3g's fly amazingly more stable than 0.2 obviously. I can get it through my neighbors abandoned treehouse's small window consistently @ 230ft. (with very little hold over) the stock DIY flat hop and 3d nub is proving itself.

I put about 500 rounds though the m150. Another thing to note is I removed the stock safety. I think its dumb. gets in the way of the bolt, i can see it accidentaly engaging in the moment. clips your fingers on the push.

My safeties are still in place: finger off the trigger, always pointing in a safe direction, magazine out and uncocked. if i needed a safety while cocked!? ..but why? lol. i can easily flick the bolt handle up. BUT it wont prevent accidental slam fires. but neither will the stock safety.

Has a proper -14mm barrel with built in inner barrel spacer. printed a new threaded muzzle brake. also notice the side arm/backup

bar 10 is resting on the scopecam/night vision scope

Trigger Machine gun Air gun Gun barrel Gas
in the background lol

some other bits to note:

I fixed the right curve with minor dremel/sanding job of the right sided of the 3d nub. PERFECT

chrono'd fps on 0.2 is now 470fps, and with 0.43 is now 320fps.

Ive been messing with my bar 10. i shoot 480 fps with a m130. For some reason i get the feeling that im shooting too low fps for the .40s im using. About how far out do your bbs begin to drop? I have full AA parts in my gun. It seems decently accurate but there arent many other snipers around here to compare notes.

what kind of inner barrel are you running? (length and diameter?) i feel that is the only thing holding me back from 550+ fps but im also fine with not spending more $ lol.

also, 480 fps on 0.2 or 0.4? im assuming the former.

on my 0.43's with hop adjusted for maximum distance, and chronoing 300fps from the barrel, they are dropping by 200ft. Im holding maybe 1.5ft over a target to get 230ft but the groupings are tight.

490 fps actually. sorry, typo. That is with .20s on a 6.01 AA. im not sure the length. id have to measure it later.
Ok thats about where mine begin to drop with similar fps to yours. I had a m150 in there but i was getting 560 fps with .20s which... is a bit hot for most fields.
What bbs are you using? Im gonna have to order some good ones. Ive been using ASG 40s because theyre the best the local shop has but at 20 bucks for 1000, im expecting better. They arent bad, but idk. just seems like i get floaters occasionally.
Honestly though that is impressive with a basically stock gun. id imagine it might wear down relatively quickly with the spring you have in there though. My stock cylinder warped a bit from it. i just sanded the plastic spacers a bit and its back to butter.

Brill has ASG .4g for $16 FYI. I think they're OEM'd by BLS, so they should be some of the best .4g BB's out there. Mine are very nice.

So I have a couple of JG gspecs, 1 has AA parts and the other has AA parts but a bulltrigg + trigger and a sniper mechanic Wasp piston, both have Skeees TDC mods and are running a left hand receiver and bolt. The JG with all AA parts has a M170 cut down so the piston rests just beyond the end of the cylinder, that way it cuts down the slam sound, the mock suppressor is foam filled and shoots 498/504 with 25s. I can hit a tin plate 14x8 at a distance of 255 ft (measured) using 45s sometimes 3 times in a row with a slight climb towards the end of its flight. The other JG has an uncut m170 sparing but as I am using the WASP in its weighted mode I get the same FPS and accuracy but higher Joules. If I swap the gspec upper out and use a 470 inner barrel I get about 540 FPS with 25; using the same cylinder set up

Thats good to know. Ive been suspicious that some of the floaters are due to dust in the barrel. 6.01s arent very forgiving. I also need to fix a bit of the barrel spacers. Vibration could be affecting things. All in all though, its extremely accurate at under 150ft. I was able to hit a popped balloon at 150 ft 3 times in a row a couple weeks ago. After 200ft is a bit more iffy though. i think ill try a m140 to toe the fps line.
should a sorbo pad be used in basr's?

Very possible. Sam Liggat has an EdGI 5.98x600(?)mm barrel in his PSG-1, so if you keep it very clean and stabilized well you should be fine.

They can be, if you don't already you should have some sort of shock reduction.

A utg mk96 I tuned up/fixed for a customer:

before:
Wood Flooring Gun accessory Composite material Natural material

Wood Air gun Trigger Gun barrel Gun accessory

After:

Air gun Wood Trigger Shotgun Gun barrel

Table Picture frame Wood Air gun Flooring

dude sold him a 'stock' gun falling apart missing a crucial screw. ratchet paint job.

i smoothened up the action, glued the trigger box, tightened up the magwell, high durability paint job, centered the barrel. 410fps on .2g

addas1223, great thread! Some of my questions which I'd not posted yet were answered, so that is a super-bonus! Your rifle and mine (Snow Wolf M24) are similar so I'm following these kinds of threads closely. Thanks for sharing all this info!! ;)

BTW, that "snake camo" paint-job looks SO great! Just for the heck of it, I'd like to try it, but with the 'snake-skin' sections angled... Thanx again for sharing!!

I've been getting a right curve as well but it's only noticeable starting around 25+ yds. But this made me think to try and shave some of the rubber from the right side of the 'nub' I made from a piece of strong rubber automotive tubing. It's so small to start with that it should be interesting.
