I am new to airsoft mechanics and was wondering what to upgrade on my JG AK47. And if I were to buy a high speed or high tork motor would I need to upgrade anything else.

Welcome. And this is airsoft society lol. AirsoftMechanics is another site lol ;) Jk Jk

Depending on what battery you're using lol. Let us know.

High torque motor is the safe route to go with almost any battery.
High speed motor with a battery less then 11.1v will be safe.

Sometimes there is mag compatability, G&G AK mags dont work, CYMA mags do so just stick with cyma ak mags.

    Deja-vu

    Yes they do.

I would try to stick with mid-priced high caps and mid-caps.

    Stay with a good/better brand.

    For Chinese stuff:
For AK's I would stay away from DBoys high caps. Their quality control is not very great. Their mid-caps are a little better.

CYMA and JG mags are fine.

G&G mags fit fine in my CYMA's, ICS, G&P, JG, Inokatsu, and TM AK's just fine.

I agree with Rocky, the best place to start is by giving the gearbox an overhaul. I don't recommend you do any major performance upgrades before you have some experience with working on the gearbox. A good gearbox overhaul can give a little boost to performance.

Make sure you buy V3 gearbox parts. Just throwing that out there.

You should also focus on air compression. Do the teflon mod, install r-hop, get a decent hop-up and bucking. Those are easy to do and will give you good benefits early on. Then you can start messing with the gearbox. I'd leave the spring upgrade last. In my personal opinion.

Also, don't forget the wiring. I've seen more than enough JG AKs with faulty wiring.
