    Price: Less than $300
    Gun Type: Electric
Use: 3+ acres of back yard...some wooded. Combo field and CQB, not competitive...yet. Gun is for me and my 10yr old to mess around with, then I'm sure a second one will follow, or third. Maintenace = ok Weekly gun surgery = not ok. I don't mind paying for reliability and performance out of the box. Understanding that no one gun is perfect.

Questions on the guns listed below:

    1. Is the average metal M4 too heavy for an equally averaged size 10yr old to manage? Not competively, but in general. or should I go with a polymer body? or maybe something like the Echo - TROY with a 4" barrel?

    2. Is the Evike Custom G&P an ok deal? It appears to me (noob) that it adds rails for $40 over the cost of the basic model.

    3. Are the external battery boxes on some of the M4's as annoying as they sound, or is it more annoying to deal with getting the battery in the hand guard or stock? (which seems like a universal comment on all systems)

I know the list is long...general advice and comments would be much appreciated, not expecting an in-depth review of each.

THANKS (in advance) for taking the time to comment!

    Welcome to the boards!

No, standard M4s weigh roughly 10 pounds, I guess. Shouldn't be a problem for a 10 year old.

G&P is amazing, Evike's G&P Customs are even better.
The reason they're more expensive than regular G&Ps is because most Evike Customs are upgraded a little bit. Also, that S-system is always more expensive than a regular M4.

Having never owned an M4, I can't answer this one.

If you have the money for G&P, don't waste it on JGs, Echo-1 or CA.

ALSO! Please note that the G&P Custom does NOT include a battery, and it's wired to Deans connectors. If you do get the G&P Custom, you'll have to purchase a battery that's wired to Deans connectors.

The other G&Ps DO come with batteries.

A metal m4 should be fine for him.

I hate external battery boxes. I had a mock peq box and despised it.

I would advise against getting an s system. If you ever want to change the front end you need a whole new upper receiver. I would look into getting the g&p m4 or a ca (no sport lines).

This is about where I'm at. $300- I am looking at the Javelin m4, grenaider package on airsoft gi. It is exactly $300 but you get a 11.1 lipo battery, charger, and a grenade launcher (includes grenade) along with your rifle, EBB.

Champo, thread jacking is considered rude, please don't do it anymore. :)

Javelin isn't the greatest, I'd skip them and go with a G&P or VFC.
