I took my Mk46 out today for an event. Between this weekend and last I've put nearly 19,000 rounds through it, and its in need of maintenance, and a good cleaning as its chunked and coated in dirt and mud. The box mag also appears to have a feeding jam, and so that needs to be fixed. Ive also noticed the accuracy has been less than stellar; it may be a combination of the long barrel (455mm) and the high rate of fire (~30rps) as the BBS have a tendency to "shotgun" at extended ranges. I'll tear it open and post updates soon.

"Shouldnt" is the key term here. I have had high-rps setups in the past that have had this issue. There was a topic on regarding this on ASM where the theory behind it is longer barrels can create pockets of turbulence behind the BBs that interfere with the air behind the BB and thus creating instability leading to decreased accuracy. Shorter barrels are thought to not have this issue as they don't allow enough time for these irregularities to develop.

Imagine if you were to put your hand in a tub of water and splash once. Note how the water is displaced and crates a wave. Now do that again, but in succession as fast as you can. You eventually run into an impedence with the water where you will crate a wave that doesn't have enough time to properly form and it ends up causing successive waves to be deformed.

I'll mess around with it a bit and see what results I get. I also disassembled the box mag and pulled out a nice BB jam in the feeding tube and enough dirt, grass pieces, and small debies to make a nautre collage. It should run much better now. I'll pull the gearbox apart in the morning and see what a collective round count of about ~30,000 looks like. I haven't checked the gearbox since I first got it and fixed what was broken in the first place. I had to replace the piston and spur gear as they were shot.

Delving into The Wayback machine gives this screen, on the very last "snapshot" it has of the site in 2018:

I need a break from the GBBR Ive been working on for the little build-off with @Leo Greer. I was browsing a few Discord servers I belong to and came across a few CQB-R builds that caught my eye, with one in particular standing out. It looks like ~ 9-10" outer barrel with a flip-up gasblock font sight, Magpul MOE handguard, RDS, and suppressor. I dug through the boxes of parts I have and found what I would need to build it. This also gives me an excuse to tinker with the weather being crappy for the next week or so. Im not quite sure what it is that really gets me. I think its just the setup is simple, clean and minimalist in nature, yet still retains a sense of elegance.

I pulled apart my 249 this morning for routine maintenance. Other than dirt everything is perfect; no excessive wear and tear though the bucking is getting worn on the feed lips. Not too shabby for putting ~40,000 BBs through it.

The box mag is another story. It seems the feeding mechanism is on the way out as it doesn't reliability feed anymore. Digging into things, it seems that the mechanism has a design flag where the sheer weight of BBs resting on it causes excessive wear and tear after a while. G&P doesn't make replacements except for replacement mags that have the same fault. I have found that Bullgear makes both replacement feed mechanisms and box mags for the G&P series of 249s. At over $100 a pop they aren't cheap by any means, and I have to order direct from BG, so shipping will be painful to boot.

So far it's been a great platform. It has its quirks, but that's going to be with anything.

Is that a King Arms piston I'm seeing?
No idea. It's just a red nylon-body FMR that I had. It's held up really well and I'm hoping it continues to for the long-term. 40k in and only the black coating is wearing off of the rack teeth.

I've got a piston you can add to your collection if I still have it! Have you even seen a JG cream piston suffer so much the piston head fused to the body, and the O-ring became one with the piston head?

13 years ago it seemed like a good idea to just never to preventative maintenance on my first JG G36. Now, granted, I had been playing for just over a year at the time and knew nothing; and airsoft then was not what it is today where every Tom, **** and Harry can just pull up whatever they want whenever they want.

I'll check around when I get home for it.
