So, I have the Novritsch SSX-23 with suppressor. Yes, the suppressor knocks the effective noise down by around 50%. Is there anyone here who has tried a fart flap mod on ANY suppressor with positive response worth the effort? If so, can you give an approximate knock down of the sound from just the filled suppressor? Additional 10%? 20%?
On the tail end of this, if you have done the fart flap mod, what material did you use? I have seen a number of different things used, but the main two seem to be cloth tape or double layered rubber gloves for material.
I saw one person on youtube do it with doubled up rubber glove material and then put 3 separate fart flaps at different spots inside the suprressor. In his estimation that made the pistol "totally silent". Sound levels are quite hard to differentiate on video and decibel meters have very little meaning to me other than showing a drop of numeric measurement.
Discuss. Laugh. Throw up or whatever.
Thoughts?

I tried it out with different suppressors with better foam, and it was actually worse. Instead of a deep and muffled whoosh there was a sharp snap from BBs hitting the thing, and it also messed up my accuracy and lowered my power by like .3J.
I'd use a disk of thin cardboard, and just shoot through it until your accuracy is good, that's been decent in my experience. Not ideal for a DMR, but good for a sub 40m gun.

Nah, you cut like an X into a piece of rubber or mousepad and put it in the end of your suppressor. I imagine that they work, but only in suppressors where the foam sucks, or the holes in the foam are way too big to be that useful. You want the holes in your suppressor foam to be barely big enough to clear a BB, if it's maximum stealth you're after. I can make a lil how to tomorrow if somebody @s me.

It's a free and reversible modification, if it's on your mind no reason not to experiment with it. That said my experience is in line with the above - tried a few different hole designs and materials on my AS-02, got results but to my ears the sound signature was worse than a tight density-layered foam insert and accuracy took a hit.

Best suppressor I've built to date had a set of 3d printed nested cone-esq baffles that rerouted the pressure wave backwards into the previous cone with ~1mm clearance around the BB, was shockingly good.

If I can find rubber gloves on the island (small chance of that), I think I will try the triple fart flap just to see for myself what it actually does. Pretty simple to do, and hell, I have time........ :D

Well, I had the time, and I found the rubber gloves on island, so I just went ahead and did it.
I made and installed 3 fart flaps in the shortened suprressor of the SSX-23. This is of course subjective at this point, but I believe the change made the suppressor even quieter than it was by a good amount. I did lose 10 fps on the chrono average and I had to turn the hop up up a little bit, but the bb's were flat and true with the adjustment. I have the makings of a video for it, I just need to do a practical sound test when my partner is available. We will compare the distance at which you can no longer hear the pistol firing in the woods where we actually play the game. Best way I know to show you how effective it is or isn't. Decibel meters and their numbers mean nothing to me, but "I couldn't hear it firing from ____ feet away" does. Will also do an accuracy test while we are at it.

I use fart flaps on my suppressors and it quietens the piston considerably. But you do have to be careful what you make the flap out of otherwise it can make more noise.
By using a fart flap, my Mk23 goes from 80dB down to 75-76dB. This is actually quite a lot when you hear it. Works a treat and if done right, does not seem to effect accuracy.

I have tried multiple flaps. They do help but on the odd occasion the bb will fly into the foam baffles. This means you have to start over again. But you never know, that may not happen with yours.

My partner finally had time to help me test it out today. In chrono results that I find interesting, the FPS went UP a couple with the 3 fratflaps installed - was NOT expecting that. All I can figure out is chalk it up to normal variance between shots? Also, in practical terms, he could not hear the SSX-23 fire at all from 45 feet (15 yards) away while it was aimed in his direction. In contrast to without the suppressor, we gave up at 170+ feet as the sound was still clearly audible to him. This was with 3 fratflaps. One in the rear of the shortened Novritsch suppressor, one in the middle and one at the business end. We tested in a jungle section to simulate playing. It was very interesting. Video will be forthcoming soon.
