I've been doing a little bit of research and I noticed that with most action cams there's not a lot of distance on them. I'm just looking for something that would be good for airsoft and might be able to capture my kills...

I'd appreciate any advice as well as I don't know which action camera companies work and which ones don't

Any useful help would be appreciated.

Any one know if putting a Gopro on my chest would be good for capturing the game?

the largest or narrowest lens action cam is the tachyon (go pro and contour have a very wide angle and not suitable for long distance kill shots). for killshot distances beyond 75 feet, a camcorder will be better. my old camcorders that were mounted on my DMR broke so i'm searching for another that can handle the abuse but for an economic price.

Most people use Contour, GoPro or Tachyon cameras, there are others, but those 3 are the most popular.

I'd double think the placement of the camera, chest area would be kinda horrible as your hands will be in the way as well as anything slung will get caught by the camera, not to mention if you're presenting your entire torso toward the target that just screams 'look at me i have a larger profile you can sling plastic at'.

Wearing a camera on a helmet or on your head would be ideal. You get the POV feel but remember the camera is mounted to the side of your head so the playback will be different then you remember it.

Mounting a camera to your weapon sounds better then it actually is. All you get are the kill shots and A LOT of pointing at a whole lot of nothing.

Thank you guys for your responses. I'll check out those companies and see what I come up with. Again, thanks.

GoPro HD Hero2 and get the head strap mount. You can even get the chest mount harness if you REALLY want it on the chest, but again as vindi pointed out, not really the best place to be recording from.

the OP wants an action cam that can capture long distance (100 feet and beyond) kill shots. this is not possible with the gopro, tachyon, or contour. a camcorder is the best alternative.

    using a kodak zi8

I wouldn't think a zi8 would be a good choice seeing as how there is no optical zoom, just digital.

GRIPP OTS mount for the Gopro

    Hi guys,

I'm a recreational shooter and airsofter and have come up with a design for a molle based mount for the Gopro Hero that gives pretty much unobstructed movement without the dynamic motions of a head/chest mounted position.

GRIPP OTS mounts are listed on ebay should there be any interest.

About a camera being gun-mounted, I have mixed feelings. Yea you get the kill shots but you have to edit a bunch of floor shots from entire video clip. Here is my link to my first in-game footage, tell me what you think:

Anyone here heard of the new Sony action cam? Profile similar to a contour, but the camera has a Carl Zeiss lens. It also comes with a rugged/waterproof case. I do not have a link for the Sony camera, google it and tell me what you guys think.

PS I used my iPhone 4 for the game footage. I used my old Otterbox case and put a mount on it to hold to my rail system.
