Basically I'm looking for a good solid M4 to serve as the basis for a series of customizations so this is what I'm looking for:

    Good internals
    inexpensive
Crane stock (wired to the back)
Upgrade-able outer body (non-proprietary outer body)

If I remember right, dboys has a gun with a crane stock. I'll try and find it.

Dboys and JG's are really good for upgrading and are both fairly inexpensive.

Gotta agree. JG is the way to go. Good guns out of the box, very upgradeable with parts that are generic and quite easy to find.
Upgrading a JG is like repairing a table in Home Depot. LOTS of choices

To be honest, dboys is better than JG in my opinion at least. Here's why:

-JG gearbox is really right. Dboys shell is stronger
    -Gears are evenly matched
-Dboys comes with one piece hop up that us metal. JG comes with two piece plastic.
-Dboys have a metal body and a decent, non gray finish unlike JG.
-Dboys have a working bolt catch.

Yeah, their motors are really nice. Dboys motors are actually quite torquey though for being ferrous. Got my hands on a JG blue today. Awesome motors. I'll do comparison tests to a Lonex orange probably.
