Hello,

I'm modifying my ICS CXP-APE into DMR and for that I updated the following items:
  • Inner barrel changed with 420mm 6.05 PDI barrel
  • Cylinder changed to a full one (without vents), to adjust the ratio to be near 2.5
  • Spring changed, I don't know the brand since I have 5 different ones, but it gives me 450 FPS (that's the limit for DMR on my zone) with the hopup zeroed.
Regarding the volume I've used the AirsoftTech calculator and measured the length of the cylinder from one side to the inner base of the cylinder head. Since the head has the foam, it gives me less than the length of the cylinder. The cylinder standard length its 72 and I believe I have 66 from the top to the inner cylinder head foam. With that value and the barrel, I get 2.37:1 volume on that tool.

The issue with ICS (or I believe its just this model), its that the cylinder head, nozzle and hop up unit have custom measures and I haven't found any better items to replace them with, so I'm not sure if those could be part of the problem.

Having said that I believe I don't reach as far as I should with a DMR. I haven't measured it, but my sensation is that I reach more or less the same as with my G36C (which I must say its heavily modified and shoots really really great). Any idea what to check or update in order to improve the shot distance?

Oh! I forgot to add that I'm shooting .36g BB with this setup.

You are getting to granular with your voluming.

What is your FPS with .36g?

The magic that you seek is not fps and air volume. Rather it's back spin and how well your hop-up imparts a good spin on your bb.

I assume you're still using the stock hopup bucking/packing? ICS ones are decent, but changing that to at least a flat hop, or a Maple Leaf setup will help. Since you're using heavy ammo you could look into Rhop as well.

FPS its between 326-328 with .36g and with the hop zeroed.

I forgot to add that, I changed the bucking to a Maple one, I think its Maple Leaf Macaron 70º (the blue one).

Your voluming calculations look good to me. As others have said, what is it you want your platform to do? What sort of range and accuracy are you looking to get? A well-tuned hop system with high-quality ammo and a very consistent gearbox is capable of some awesome performance.

To be honest, with DMRs a good flathop will only get you so far. The realm of R and ER-hops is where things really begin to get interesting. Yes, there are buckings on the market that offer very goood performance for different applications, but IMO a good Rhop for your platform will give you what you want, assuming the other 2 items I listed above are true for you.
