So I'm sitting here in the ER with my brother, hopeing he's not going to go blind in his left eye. We did have eye pro on but there not full seals, and a bb was ricocheted and went under them and hit him in the eye. So this is it for me, I'm ending my team and selling all of my gear. I'll be putting it all in the classifides as soon as we get home.

There is not point in quitting over this accident. It could have been easily avoidable yes, but you learn from the mistakes including the hardway. Hope your brother has no permanent damage.

We finely got home last night, but he has to go to a specialist all week. Thay said that he has a severe injury to the puple(spelling). It's so bad the the specialist only sees this about 6 times a year. luckily the puple(spelling) was'ent split open, so as long as he takes it really easy over the next few weeks, it should heal okay. But there is a in between story to why I quitting, it not just because he got hurt.

Sorry to hear that I really hope he gets better. That was a big commitment to make, selling your guns and gear and I think I would do they same. Best of luck for your brother to get better.

Sorry to hear about your brother man hope it does heal, you'll have to keep us informed.

I feel like after it heals you might think differently about quitting the sport, I would give it some time and really mull over the idea if you really truly want to quit.

Years ago, a good friend of mine got shot in the eye for being a ******. Was playing a night game and took his eye protection off, and BAM, couldn't see for 3 days. His eyesight was blurry for weeks after. He still has issues with it every once and a while, it just looses focus and hurts every once in a while. Now at least your brother had eye protection unlike my friend.

If anyone really cares about their eyesight, they will have full seal goggles, not shooting glasses. This is a good example of why they are not safe for airsoft. If a bb can get through any part of the eye protection, then it's not protecting your eyes.

I hope your brother is getting better and recovers fully. Target shooting is always an option too. If you want to abandon the mortar idea, I can completely understand. But if you still want to, feel free to pop into the thread and help out when you want too ;)

But most importantly, I hope that he recovers fully. From what it sounds like your saying, I would think that he can, as I've heard of people fully recovering getting shot 10+ times in both eyes without protection. Good luck and I hope all goes well!

Thanks guys, and I'm putting a lot of thought into what I'm going to. I don't think I'm going to completely stop playing, but I am going to take a new approach to continuing to play. First and formost I'm going to require the whole team to ware full face mask, with no exceptions. And I'm going to put down a new set of rules also. Iv all ways enforced safety rules, but now that iv been hit with this reality check, I'm going to be more strict about it.

When I first read through this thread, I was upset at you, and lost respect for you and your knee-jerk reaction. Then you said there were other reasons you where getting out of airsoft, alright fine.

But you're still in the knee-jerk stage.

This is why there are so many gun issues in Cali. One kid get's shot because an officer is 100% doing what he is supposed to do, and is trained to do, and a bill pops up to make every toy gun brightly colored. That doesn't fix the problem.

Yeah, your bro got shot in the eye, that sucks, I hope he heals better than my friend did. But stop for a while, and think about what you are doing. Requiring full face protection is going to annoy people. It's unnecessary for that much protection. Helpful yes, but you don't see people walking around in full padding everywhere they go. Is it safter, yeah, is it practicle, no. Just calm down, and think. The issue here was glasses were used. Had your brother been wearing full seal goggles, this wouldn't have happened.

I've been pushing for years to get rid of shooting glasses, and now at my local field, they are outlawed because of these kinds of situations. They just aren't safe.

Good idea with the face mask. People (like the ones posting above) don't realize HOW unsafe airsoft is until THEY get injured. And to those who say it isn't practical to wear a whole face mask, ask yourself why you think they do that in paintball. Your eyes aren't the only vulnerable part of your body. Neck, ears, nose, and mouth are also vulnerable parts. You'd rather be safe then sorry.

Airsoft isn't necessarily the safest sport, but protection to the whole face in my opinion should be worn.
