    Hi all,

My brothers and I are getting into airsoft so I wanted to get some advice on a few things and this seemed like a nice and knowledgeable forum. I'm sure I could find discussions for these on here or elsewhere but thought it would be faster to introduce myself and put it all in one place.

    1. What is a good place to deal with for purchasing guns, equipment, etc.? It seems like quite a few people here like Evike, and I've also looked on Airsoft GI and Airsoft Station. Just curious what the experience has been as far as returns, customer care, and professionalism.

    2. (Probably your most common question) What is a good gun to get started with under $200? Seems like an AEG is a good way to start and we will be playing mostly outdoor fields so need something with decent range. I've looked at discussions on here and it seems like the http://www.evike.com/products/33557/ is a good choice and it has good reviews. I know it doesn't come with a battery and charger but I think Evike is giving a free gift that might help with that. Also, while it has good reviews it also says that it is a pre-order so is this a new version that could not be as good as the old? What about in AK and bullpup styles?

    3. Which protection is better, glasses or mask?

    Thanks for any advice,
    FSG

1: I have had mostly bad experiences with ASGI, but everyone I personally know used them without issue. I mainly use eBay, Evike, and Brill Armory currently, along with some overseas sites. Rule of thumb...ALWAYS use paypal, and document anything that looks sketch. If you want my personal horror stories with ASGI and Evike, I have a few [only one issue with Evike so far, which they have been helpful in sorting so far].
2: The AEG you linked isn't bad by any means. Btw, never buy batteries and chargers from airsoft retailers. They either have poor quality batteries and chargers, or they are overpriced. Buy those from Hobbyking.com. You'll want to go with a 7.4v lipo and an iMax b6AC charger. Going with an AK platform rifle would be a better bet than going with an m4, I will say. Stronger gearbox, better hopup design, some come with high torque motors, and they're easier to tech on than M4's are. Plus the mags hold more. Bullpups are... iffy. Tend to be proprietary parts, and less aftermarket support than AKs and M4s.
3: Depends on what you like. Either way, you'll want to have some lower face protection as well as the eye pro, so if you don't go with a full face mask, you'll want to get something else to protect your mouth.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. So right now for a starter pack I'm looking at either the http://www.evike.com/products/33557/ or https://www.evike.com/products/32095/ with a https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-1000mah-2s-30c-lipo-pack.html. I used to be in RC planes quite a bit so I think my old smart charger will work for that, although I may go ahead and get the https://hobbyking.com/en_us/imax-b6-50w-5a-charger-discharger-1-6-cells-genuine.html.

From the research I've been doing it looks like I can upgrade these down the road which I'm looking forward to as I love tinkering with stuff like this.

If you want an AK, do NOT get the G&G Combat Machine AKs. Get a Cyma VFC-style AK (models 040, 045, 048) instead.

G&G M4s are pretty good beginner weapons.

If your smart charger is a Lipo charger it should work fine. If you can find it online and link to it that would be even more helpful.

That Lipo will not fit in the stock of the G&G M4. Get something like https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-2000mah-2s-15-25c-lipo-airsoft-pack-1.html instead.

    ^^^ Agreed ^^^

OP, take a look at this linked list and use it to determine which model of a Cyma AK you'd be looking at. Again, you'll want to look around for a VFC clone for what you're looking for: http://forum.mnairsoft.org/viewtopic.php?t=38937

Look at the model number underneath the title of the replica. The one you linked is the (AEG-CM042), which is a TM clone.

Take a look at these Cyma VFC clones, and see what you think of them if you're still interested in AK's:

    CM-048M https://www.evike.com/products/49613/
    CM-048 https://www.evike.com/products/32091/
    CM-040D https://www.evike.com/products/48515/
    CM-040J https://www.evike.com/products/53956/

These are just a few from Evike, so be sure to look around and ask questions before buying anything.

Lastly, they do go on sale from time to time. I know that I've gotten mine marked off $50 before from Evike. So if you're willing to wait, that could be a way to save some money.

    Good luck in your search,
    Chow

Thanks, Chow. I'll look at those. I misunderstood and thought anything over 40 was VFC.

    Welcome in!
For goggles, a lot of people seem to like the military surplus ESS, but I've really had fun with Pyramex I-Force Goggles. I use the 'Slim' variant. They're like $20 on amazon. They have yet to fog on me (even with sweat running down my face) , they are comfortable and they're low profile. Combine them with a One Tigris mesh mask for another $20 and you're golden.

Mine cost me $8, iirc. Valken rebrands them.

Mine weren't $20 either, more like $15/16 each.

Which flight sim do you play? I used to play a lot of War Thunder simulation mode and a tiny bit of DCS.

Haha! Actually been out of sims for awhile but I just got my sticks back out so hopefully getting back into them. Mainly FSX, although I dabbled in WT. Played some MCFS, XPlanes 9, and YSFlight.
