So a while back I ordered a Cybergun/Swiss Arms SG552 EBB AEG. (Wow that’s a mouthful)

right out of the box, there was an issue with the trigger. Whenever I had the gun in semi or full auto WITHOUT the battery attached, and pulled the trigger, there was a grinding sound for the first trigger pull, and for any subsequent pulls it was very smooth, aside from occasionally there was a snapping sound, and then the next trigger pull was grinding again. No problem, except when I then plugged in the battery, the gun would, on its own, fire either one round (if I was on semi or safe) or several rounds in a burst (if I was on full)

with the battery in, there was no issues at all.

even this I could live with. Just don’t pull the trigger until I’m all loaded up and ready to go.

Problem was, it didn’t stop there. Since the trigger was basically being pulled continuously at that point, after a little while the selecter switch stopped working right. Auto was fine, but semi alternated between burst fire and semi.

so I send it in for RMA under Evike’s policy. Great. Just got it back earlier this week. Guess what?! The selecter switch is fine, but I still have that all too familiar grinding sound.

so I send evike tech support an email. They email me back saying to make sure I’m using a fully charged battery.I am, and either way the battery would have nothing to do with the grinding sound that happens when no battery is installed.

so I send them an incredibly detailed email detailing exactly what’s going on. I even included a video (I will also include a link to said video here) of the problem. this is what I get:

So basically, I think the trigger contacts are getting stuck together some how. I’m good with disassembling the gun if that’s what it takes (at this point the Evike warranty is basically useless) but I don’t know what to do.

Several issues.

One It's a Cybergun Product...they make the lowest quality junk and pretend it's high end. I know this because I worked for this company...it was maddening.
Two EBB...or what I call the Jiggly Door Sydrome. It's another point of future failure that will take down the mech due to an auxiliary feature that has no bearing on delivering a bb on target.
Three Evike Tech/Customer Service - They are not going to take the 3 hours it would entail to disassemble this thing and put it back together at no charge. The took it in threw it on a shelf...powered it up later...it shot...so they sent it back to you.

That crunch you are hearing/feeling is most likely the contact trolley getting jammed into the prongs and then it sticks. After a moment it frees itself and then you can crunch it back in again.

No the other question how excited are you about tearing this down?

This is a very bad AEG to learn how to tech on a V3 mechbox.

On a bit of a side note, what reasonably priced brands are best? I was looking at Krytac and G&G specifically, since they both have versions of the gun I want. I was leaning toward krytac?

I would keep sending it back (don't disassemble it). Evike probably will get sick of it and give you a refund which you can use to buy a better gun. (After Evike receives it back, it will make a re-appearance in one of their mystery boxes.)

Guges - who OEM'ed the Cybergun SG552?

When I was there...they didn't have that model in an EBB.

Being that it's CYB...it's either a DE or a APS.

I’m only speaking of what I’ve picked up around here, and opinions will differ. But the consensus I‘ve seen is that the Krytac is a good out of the box gun. Don’t need to modify to make it usable, but aren’t the easiest to mod though.(I’ll let the others correct/expand on this). I haven’t really heard enough about G&G to have a good opinion as a base platform. So I’ll let that one sit for those who will correct me. ;)

Out of the two… buy a used Krytac. I’ve worked on and used both, and the KT is simply sturdier and nicer, assuming you don’t want to modify, but of course it heavily depends on what you want out of the gun…

Here’s the caveats: Krytac has a couple of things OOTB… KT squeak. KTs are infamous for having squeaky gear sounds, even when shimmed perfectly. You can look up the YouTuber Dutch the Hooligan using $1500 rebuilt KTs and they’re still squeaky. This is fixable, but is a pain, and I don’t recommend. IMO Krytac is also on the edge of having outdated mechbox internals for the price. The mechbox itself is extremely sturdy, their barrel groups are above par, and their externals are very solid, but for the price, other companies have begun to offer more and more. For $200 lightly used it’s a good deal. I wouldn’t ever buy one new.

G&G has some different models and levels of niceness, and that heavily affects my recommendation, though “solid” and “basic” is still a good word for most. What were you looking at?

From personal use I’ll bring up the Arcturus NY06 line… they’re very solid—the internals are basically an update to Krytac, with the exception of maybe the mechbox. There are some items, like the bolt catch and the selector switch that I hate, but those don’t matter so much if you never disassemble the gun, and they fire amazing for the price.

The one caveat here is you can’t really find the NY06s used yet, so no half-price deals.

Actually the reason I liked that one so much is because Dutch the hooligan was using basically the same one but by umbrella armory. It just seemed like a pretty good gun, and I remembered hearing krytac was pretty good. And wayyy less expensive than umbrella armoire.

Do you know if there are any of those Arcturus ones in full metal? Or at least replacements for the plastic parts available? I’ve had bad experiences with poly body’s on my ak, and I can’t find replacements anywhere. I want to make sure I won’t have the same issues here.

LVOA is just the model Krytac makes, licensed from Warsport, who made the real steel version--they're basically the same insides as the other Krytac M4s.

KT is definitely in the "solid" category as far as I'm concerned (and probably most knowledgeable folks).

Arcturus does have full metal options--some of the older M4s have alloy bodies, and some of the newest Arcturus CAT models. The caveat is that the old models don't have a lot of the nice new internal parts, and the new ones that are alloy receivers are expensive. I will say from personal experience that the Arcturus polymer is extremely sturdy (I've accidentally thrown mine a few times while sprinting full tilt), but if full metal makes you happy, go for it!

UA is a tech house that seems to specialize in modifying Krytacs. They are expensive presumably due to skilled labor. I have had a not very pleasant experience dealing with them and as a result I will not give them any more business or recommendations.

Also, disregarding 'influencers' on social media in terms of getting accurate representations or recommendations on what to buy is a good first step.

"Full metal" is a marketing buzzword, similar to "lipo ready" or "pre-upgraded".

If you're looking for replicas with metal receivers, that's fine if that's what you want. There are no standards for alloy (and plastic) blends and different models will likely have different strengths. G&G and PTS plastics have stood up well to abuse from what I've seen, and I'm sure there are manufacturers that have needlessly heavy and/or weak zinc blends that are more brittle than nylon fiber.

To expand on the background, War Sport Industries was the company that manufactured the LVOA AR-15 but no longer exists as that entity.

The WSI website, last updated in 2014. The link to http://lvoa.us no longer works

According to this article, WSI was acquired by ZRODelta who is still manufacturing some LVOA components.
