I know that WE Lugers are total crap, but is the tanaka Luger skirmishable?

Yes, it is. Although plastic, the gun is fully capable of action.

Thank you shifty! My prayers have been answered! A luger that doesn't suck!

Can it handle propane? Or would a duster gas adaptor be the best route?

Green gas has always worked fine in my Tanaka pistols, but 134a/duster gas is always recommended for long term use in plastic automatics. They are incredibly well built, but definitely tuned for 134a.

Do bear in mind the way a Luger works. Even in the real steel, the mechanical operation of ejection works differently than any standard gas blowback. You may run into quirks.

Not sure myself, but since Tanaka was the only other brand to make a commercial Luger (to my knowledge) it likely the only design they could have copied. Would certainly make magazine acquisition moderately simpler!
