The Difference between Green Gas vs CO2 for Air Gun

1204 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Guges Mk3
An air gun is a weapon that fires bullets or pellets with the expansion of compressed air. Do you own an air gun and are looking for different options for refilling it? Are you new to this process, so you have no idea what's better suited for your air gun? Are you aware of what Green Gas is? Whatever your answer to these questions might be, we're here to help you out and make things easier.

What is Green Gas airsoft?

The Green Gas airsoft is a term in which there is a chemical composition that is closer to propane. The main component of Green Gas airsoft is pressurized propane gas. As a gas itself, propane gas is non-toxic, and it powers airsoft guns \ airsoft pistol mixed with silicone oil.

What is Green Gas?

Green Gas, also known as Greenhouse Gas, is a man-made gas extracted from the ground. It is a renewable and sustainable gas that can be used in the same way as natural gas. It contributes to the greenhouse effect and lets out radiant energy by absorbing infrared radiation from the Earth's surface. Green Gas is also safe, just like natural gas, and can be used for appliances or the gas system with any modifications.

What is CO2?

Also known as Red Gas, CO2 is an acidic colorless gas that is found naturally in the Earth's atmosphere. It is a greenhouse gas that has a faint odor and a sour taste. One of the most important gases on Earth for plants, this gas comprises two parts of oxygen and one part of carbon dioxide.

Green Gas vs CO2

Benefits of Green Gas

If you are looking for a Green Gas air gun refill, you should know that Green Gas is easier on the gun, more efficient, lighter on the pocket, and easier to store. With low pressure, it won't be difficult to operate your weapon, and due to the silicone oil, it will provide lubrication to the air gun as you fire.

Benefits of CO2 cartridge

On the other hand, it isn't easy to compare both because CO2 also offers great benefits. If you're looking for something that provides a more powerful shot and works better in the cold, then CO2 should be your preference. The CO2-filled air gun will work faster than Green Gas in extreme temperatures but is slightly expensive.

Both gases are worth a shot in their own way by the benefits they offer. However, it all depends on what your requirements and preferences are for the use.

Just so you know, the airsoft community here for the most part knows that green gas is actually pointless to use in our airsoft guns. Same goes for C02. Both are bad for airsoft purposes. In our case, a good ol' can of propane (camping gas) is the better option.

Welcome to the forum. I assume your a marketing manager for a foreign company.

Scentless propane is more preferred. Silicone disables hopup instantly and ruins the mag seals in a few months. Many players know this and yet manufacturers struggle to understand this.

Your literature is incorrect here too.

Having been in the industry since the 20th Century and having direct experience. Let me point out the errors for you:

Gas guns fires a projectile from gasses that is stored in a compressed state. It is not "compressed air".

Red Gas - Is NOT CO2. CO2 is no Color.

Red Gas is a refrigerant, I know I have 6 cans of it from 20 years ago still.

Liquid Bottle Fluid Ingredient Glass bottle

^That is 'Red" Gas.

This is also incorrect: "Green Gas, also known as Greenhouse Gas"

This industry used to power Airsoft guns with Freon, which is BAD of the atmosphere. So they used a more friendly to the atmosphere gas (that was still bad for the atmosphere) called Green Gas - HCFC-122 (another refrigerant).

CO2 is also a refrigerant now, known as: R744

You need to know Chemistry - CO2 is two parts Carbon and one part oxygen.

This is incorrect - "this gas comprises two parts of oxygen and one part of carbon dioxide." <= O + O + CO2

This is correct.

CO2 is not acidic in Gas form, CO2 is "only" acidic in liquid form in solution as Carbonic Acid.

You should NEVER put Siloxanes in Propane to make Green Gas. Do you know what Siloxanes are? It's called "Silicone Oil",...but it's not Silicon...do you know why they put oil in the air lines for Freon guns and why inexperienced people carried it over to modern Airsoft? I do...please ask me or search this forum for those answers. I have typed it more than once...

You should never use HP Gas in a LP system. That is what is Airsoft. LP systems. Leave it to the "inexperienced" to make and sell low quality Airsoft Products that run on CO2 and restrictor disc to mitigate the pressure versus a regulator.

Plus...you can valve a GG gun to work better than CO2 in the cold. CO2 does fail quickly in the cold also. I can provide CO2 pressure data and apply it to the ideal gas law for you in PV= nRT.

If you need marketing help for your materials, please contact me.

This industry has been polluted for far to long by people that don't know anything about the industry, guns, IP and well...science.

Is unscented propane available in the US market?
Isn't that just camping gas, like Coleman propane?

When I have smelled this stuff in the past, all I think about is the bathroom at Tacobell... not the prettiest of smells...

No, Propane bottles from Coleman are scented. The scent causes the indoor place I play at ban the use of ‘propane’. It also stinks up my basement.
Oh, sorry, for some reason I read scented. My bad:rolleyes:

Yea, I don't think it is legal. I wonder if you could drop fragrances into the adaptor before filling, but I am not sure if that will cause the same affect as putting silicone oil into your gas. @Guges Mk3 , we need your help on this one!
By Law, you cannot buy unscented Propane in the US.

I find Torch fuels have the lowest scent of all the bottled propane.
