Tippmann M4 v2 - inconsistent FPS

806 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  OutlawAirsoft
Following on from my posts where the BBs were curving strongly to the right, due to a folded-over lip on the hop rubber, which I resolved with a new one, I've now got a different issue...

The velocity is very inconsistent, varying by +-10fps... so a total variation of 20fps over just a few shots.
I've inspected the barrel again and found the replacement hop rubber is also damaged - there are two small splits in the lip of the hop rubber, so perhaps the nozzle is pushing too deep into the barrel - or maybe it's not perfectly aligned (it looks a little low) and that's catching the rubber more on one side than the other and inducing the tears.

Is there any way to adjust the alignment or stop the nozzle going quite so far forward?
Or is it likely to be something else causing the velocity changes?

Nozzle motion is fixed...you cannot adjust it.

if your packing is already ripped...do you have an edge on your nozzle?

Different *guns use different length nozzles - 21.45mm , 22mm, etc. It's possible you have one that's to long if you've installed a aftermarket hopup chamber or nozzle? There are adjustable length nozzles (Maxx) but generally those are only needed when you're running a very unorthodox build.

If both your nozzle and hopup are stock/original, I'd be looking at how the bucking was installed. Its pretty easy to push a barrel to hard when stuffing it into a hop chamber and cause the barrel to split the bucking lips. I usually apply a small amount of grease to the outside of the bucking before install so its a little easier to get in place without causing damage.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated!

It's just two little tears, I think at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. The nozzle looks smooth and standard. The nozzle block has had the dwell mod done though, so it's not totally 100% stock

Everything looks stock for the breech backwards, and matched the pic I've seen of a new nozzle block. I can't be certain about the hop unit though.
I thought I was careful enough not to damage the rubber when installing it onto the barrel, but perhaps I pushed the barrel to hard into the receiver.. the nut on the outer barrel has to be very tight to get everything to line up for the handguard fitment, perhaps that is causing damage.

I've got a Maple Leaf on the way, I'll be fitting that and then immediately taking it apart again to ensure it's not been damaged during installation
You may have to enlarge your hopup window. MLs have large patches.
