Hi guys, I'm new here and could sure use some help.

I want to get a pair of Airsoft Assault Rifle, I'd like them to be as authentic as possible (really more concerned about feel and weight and not some other areas) but I'm on a budget.

I'm not looking to get into competitions, I don't even plan on using them for recreational Airsoft matches. Basically I want it to range fire in my back yard (got a good size backyard).

See my kids and I went to a local gun store and he had this really sweet M4 AR that he said was an exact replica of the real deal. He even said that they had just sold 6 to the local police department for training purposes. He let us (my kids and I) fire it and it was sweet! My problem was that it was $400.

I'd like to get one for each of my kids and so I'd like to keep it under $200, under $150 preferably. The one he had was gas powered and I think I'd like that, from what I gather they have the most realistic feel with regards to recoil, etc. I heard Gas can not be reliable in the cold weather but I'm from South Texas to the 4 days of winter aren't really a factor for us.

Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated

Any GBBR will do the trick for most realistic. They offer full weight, functioning bolt and charging handles and recoil.
Western Arms, WE, KWA and King Arms all make GBBR airsoft rifles.
I have a KWA LM4 and the recoil is a little less than a .22 real steel. The takedown process is identical as well. 38rd mags(fill to only 30 for Real Steel shot count)

VFC AEGs will give you the external realism but with no recoil. you can buy real capacity AEG mags as well to give you round count. The weight of the VFC is very good and the externals are solid. functioning charging handle and bolt catch as well

Thats the real side of airsoft which also comes with a price of well over 200...

the best looking cheap in price rifle you can get IMO are some CA and G&P. Check out the classifieds here for some better prices on rifles... They arent new though

But your not going to get a gas blowback for your price range..So I'd reccomend an aeg and run mid caps,With your budget thats about the best you can do.

@ Protectionperfection, thanks the info was helpful. It's looking like if I want quality for the price range I need to go with an AEG. I really wanted the feel, weight, and recoil..... :(
If I may ask what do you mean by "CA" and "G&P"? Sorry to ask but again I'm new to this whole airsoft thing.

@ Rocky, thanks that was also helpful. What do you mean by "run midcaps"? Again sorry to ask what is probably an obvious answer.

Someone on another forum posted a link to GBBR, the stuff that looks the most authentic are around $350 and up. The page is http://www.airsoftgi.com/index.php?cPath=139_482&sort=2a&PLsort=5a&max_display_search_results=50

If I have to go AEG to meet my budget which AEGs (manufacturer) around the $200 to $250 would you recommend that has the best feel (god I'd love a FULL METAL gun), weight, and recoil as the real deal? Feel and recoil being my biggest priority

Alright,G&P is a brand and so is CA (classic army). Now mid caps are 100 round mags,If your going to play i reccomend those otherwise you will be outclassed. Now if you really want realism then run low caps,Low caps are 30 round mags. Now mid caps can be filled with 30 rounds aswell so you can swich of between 100 rounds and 30 rounds.

Mid caps are anything that dont use a winding wheel on the bottom of a mag. They can range from anything above 30-150rds but they cant have a wheel to be considered a midcap. Lowcaps are 30rd and below mags.
    CA is Classic Army

Something that should be asked, do you already have eye/face protection? If not, make sure you get that befor eyou do anything. a simple paintball mask that cost about $20 will work just fine. If you dont want a full face you can pick up a pair of ESS goggles for about $25 and if you want lower face you can get a mesh lower for 15-20

Some website to look at. you can sort by price.
    Evike.com
    airsoftgi.com
    redwolfairsoft.com
    ehobbyasia.com
    airsoftmegastore.com

Guns I just picked real quick (only from Evike.com and only m4 models)

Thanks guys, wow all the info is extremely useful.

I don't like to drown the initial post with info but I guess I need to clarify something. The whole Airsoft concept for us started because I feel my kids (7 and 9) are still too young for the real deal steel weapons. I REALLY want a GBB because from what I gather they are the only things that best simulate the real deal in weight and recoil (best simulate). We're not into "War Games" for now, we just want to shoot downrange in our backyard so I can get them used to it. Heck I can buy a real AK-47 (that can also be modified to shoot .22 rounds) at a local gun store for $600 so it's hard to justify buying an Airsoft for $400. The local gun store I mentioned has a sweet AR for $400 that feels nice in weight and has moderate recoil but I don't know the brand. They said they sold about 6 to the local police department for training exercises. Again I realize I can't have that particular gun for $400 but something similar would be nice. I think I may be willing to up my budget to $300 but please remember i have to buy two of them and it's not even for "War Games", it's just for shooting down range and prepping them for the real deal.

Again you guys have been amazing thanks
