Got my first gun couple weeks ago, and want to go to a game to try Airsoft. What to expect?

Am I going to be that rookie guy that no one wants on his team? Everyone will make fun of? How do the teams get assigned and how do you know who is your enemy and teammate during the game? How hit calls work? How long are the games and what is the skirmish style? Like CTF or Elimination? Any other extra tips on what to expect and how to make my first game more like able? Thanks!

Not sure how it works elsewhere, but at my home field teams are either Green or Tan. Actually, at D14, they're tape/no-tape. White tape makes it easier to identify team mates/opposition. Same principal, though. Usually grouped by the color of your loadout.

Just go play and have a good time. Doubtful anyone will care how good you are or aren't your first game. Just pick a side and start shooting the opposing team. Mind your MED (minimum engagement distance) for the field. They'll usually let you know before the first match.

Time limits vary depending on the game mode, etc. Some can be 10-15 minutes, some can be an hour or more. Depends on the objective, etc. Lots of variables here.

Just get out there and have fun. And prepare to have plenty of welts to show off afterward!

If you're hit anywhere on your body, you're out, it's as simple as that. How the other players will act towards depends on the general attitude at the location you're playing at. At the local fields where I live people are usually quite welcoming towards new players. I'm happy when I see new faces at the local fields, it means the airsoft community is gaining new players.

The most important thing is to use proper eye protection and NEVER remove it when you're inside the game area. A good set of hiking boots or similar is recommended, as it'll lessen the risk of spraining an ankle and will also protect your feet better from hits. Also make sure to stay hydrated, you will most likely sweat out quite a bit of water. Also have a snack now and then to keep your energy up.

+1 about hydration.

I almost got heat exhaustion because I sweat to the point of dehydration. It is not fun. Carry your water in a bladder on your back, as canteens don't work, as you need to completely remove your face protection to use it.

All fields are different, but most of them are very welcoming to new players. When you get there, just ask around and see if someone will show you the ropes. It's really quite straightforward. Teams are divided by camo or by colored bands. Shoot the enemy color. If you get shot, you are dead.
Never remove your eyepro and be a good sport. Also, like Lefse said, bring plenty of water and snacks. For a typical game I bring 3-5 water bottles and a gatorade, along with some granola bars and a sandwich. As strange as it seems, you will easily sweat away 2-3 bottles in a day.
Also, don't feel outgunned. It took me 3 years to finally understand that. It's all in the playing style. I would recommend that at first you stay back and support your team, get the lay of the land. Once you know the place, never stay in one place. The easiest way to have a horrible airsoft experience is to camp on spot and not play to the full extent.
TL;DR follow the flow, drink water and snack on something, wear eyepro, and have fun. You will be absolutely fine! Have fun!

I will be playing with my Lancer Tactical which I regret of buying since I could of added another 60-80$ and gotten G&P with good externals...

Also do I need to always carry everything with me? Like all my bb's and all water and everything or there is a spawn where i can leave it all and take what needed for one round?

Just ordered one mid cap, eye and face protection and gloves. But still can't decide what to do with my Lancer Tactical as everyone makes me think it's a waste of money

The lancer is an ok starter gun, on the plus side it will be lighter then a G&P. You shouldn't have to carry everything with you, you should be able to keep extra ammo and water in a staging area. I would just say be careful that you don't leave anything too valuable lying around because you don't know the field and the people. Also what set up do you have for face and eye pro? How many mags do you have?

Upgraded battery to 9.6 thats about all I should do to it as others recommended. Gun is not worth anything else.

For eye pro I ordered Valken V-Tac and face is unknown for 10$ from amazon, had pretty good reviews.
Mags I have one hi cap that came with a gun and ordered 190rd mid cap.

Expect OT be undergunned, and overwhelmed. my first game in 2005 was amazing. My stock gun didn't have the range many had, so I blew through 3 batteries and 2x 5k bags of ammo in the day. At the end i was dehydrated because i didnt drink enough water, and was cramped like crazy because i wasnt used to all the movement.
Drink lots of water a week before the event, eat well before the game, get a lot of sleep and pack lots of ammo and battery. You will get hook bad!

Enjoy!

I started playing paintball last July. I said hello to people and told them I was a noob. Everyone is usually really cool. We're all nerds that like to shoot people. Ask about thier gear (cool, it's my first time, wow!) ask about thier guns (wow, I'm a total noob, cool!). You'll make friends and quickly find the people who will welcome you aboard. I always try to help out noobs with advice. It's how you keep sports like this alive.

I'm going to play airsoft for the first time Saturday and I have the same game plan. "Hi, I'm a noob! Is that new VFC Avalon? Cool!".

Lancer Tactical is fine. Their M4s shoot strong and straight. Sure, the externals are cheap, but you get hits not by the external material. I bought an LT for 80 bucks a couple of years ago because I was curious. It surprised me because my LT M4 was out of the box more accurate than a couple of the guns in my collection that cost three times as much.

The problem with LT isn't that they don't have some good internals, it's that they cut corners. Examples being that their externals aren't anything to write home about, and in at least one AEG that I handled, the inner barrel had an inconsistent bore. Which resulted in extreme inaccuracy. If you have one that works well, no reason to not use it.

When i started a short time ago it was at an indoor place and they were amazing with how welcoming they all were. I am talking about the other players by the way. Dont be afraid to tell them you are new. They will help explaine rules if you missed them and will help you with what ever the game type is. First thing is make sure you ALWAYS leave your eyepro on. Dont take it off to scratch your eye or wipe the sweat away. leave the active game area if you need to but never take it off in game. And second allways call your hits.
