I'm going to look at a friends gun tomorrow. An I know very little about it and so does he actually. What are things I should inspect to see the quality, without taking it apart to much.
Thanks

First, ask for the brand of the gun. The gun model is the first step. Good externals are a plus, but make sure that the gun has good internals.

Second, ask for a report of what was done with the gun. Example, what parts were upgraded/replaced?

Third, inspect the performance. Test the gun, hold the gun, make sure you like it.

That's about it. Make sure you check back with a summary, we'll make sure you won't get ripped off. Hope he's a good friend that you can trust, that way he'll give you an accurate summary of the gun.

First and foremost educate yourself. You're gonna need to figure out the brand and model he has and do research on it. Figure out the difference(s) between it and similar guns and other brand's versions of the same gun. The worse thing you can do is pay the G&P price for a JG gun.

Second you'll want to test it out. This is one biggest advantage to buying use, you can and should test the gun out. I personally like to bring my own mag, mag, ammo, and batteries/gas in the event the seller says he doesn't have a charged battery and etc. If the seller does not let you test, simply walk away.
When you test it out, make sure all the bells and whistles work - again this reverts back to my first point of educating yourself.

Don't be the [explicit person] who agrees to pay one amount but shows up with less than the agreed upon amount. Negotiating once you're there is fine, but if you agree with $100, don't show up with $80 before discussing it with the seller. Don't waste your time and his time trying to get one over on him.

These are the main things, there are a few other things, but these 3 (Really 2) things are the biggest.

Thanks for all the advice! I Looked at the gun, last night and determined that its is a Palco sports DPMS M4 carbine SIR http://www.cforceproshop.com/Palco-Sports-DPMS-M4-Carbine-S-I-R-p/ps_17927.htm It has a full metal gearbox, a metal upper receiver, buffer tube, RIS rail, Barrel, and flip up front and rear sights. It is really a rebranded JG S-sytem from what I can, see. It comes with A Cheap sling, a cheap fore grip, a regular mag and a ginormous box mag, and a replica acog. He's asking 150-200 and I want to give him a good deal, since as far as I can tell its a good price. What do y'all think?

DPMS is basically JG. It's just the Sports Authority/Army Navy version... That's over-priced because the airsoft player who doesn't know much about airsoft tends to shop there.

You can get a brand new JG S-System for less than this guy's asking price.

Also, something I learned the hard way. When a gun comes with free stuff included in the package, you should probably not buy it. Typically free stuff are added in to make you think you're getting a better deal or make you forget about overall quality.
The sling will break upon your first use. The foregrip will be loose and wobbly and will break after a couple uses. The box mag well it's fun until you realize everyone is making fun of you :-/

Regardless $150 for a NEW gun and $50 for a new box mag is still a better deal than $200 for the used stuff this guy's offering. And keep in mind, my estimate of $200 brand new is aiming high, it'll probably be around $175 brand new. Long story short, not a good deal, even if he drops to $150 I'd take the new over the used for $25 more. Plus shipping will be free at most places since you're spending more than $100

Nope, don't do it. After all, it's used, the gun will be worth half it's original price. I'd probably give him $110-$130. You could get a decent new gun for $150-$200.

Even $110-$130 is a good deal for him, even if there are other accessories and whatnot.
