Hello all. My name is Jay and I am pretty new to the airsoft world. My son got his 1st AEG(KWA G36) back in June. We found out we had a field close by us and he started going. He loves airsoft!!! We are in NY and the field is Zulu24 (which is a great field by the way). I finally decided to try it out myself & had a lot of fun...and realized I need to have a AEG of my own. I decided on an ICS Galil ARM and a KJW G23. My son had an ACU plate carrier after he upgraded his so I am currently going with all ACU camo. I am going to start looking for some new camo but I am in no rush. I have been checking threads for a few weeks now & finally got around to posting an intro. We have already built a decent arsenal of guns. My son got a used ACR & a used SCAR but he doesn't use them much. Haven't even checked them out much myself so I couldn't even tell you the brands. He just got a JG Aug A-3 for xmas along with a WE 1911 with a rail system on it. Makes no sense to me but he loves it, Also got a JG M5-J from an Evike box of awesomeness. I decided to upgrade the Galil a bit. I just ordered a 6.01 TBB along with the top rail setup for a sight. Also got a barrel mount laser because it looks cool & it was cheap. Well that's my story so far. I'll post the before pics in the gun registry & then the after pics. Look forward to be a part of this board!!!

Zulu is great. 30+ building CQB area and several different areas in the woods. A small village, oil rig, helicopter crash site, drug lab with a jail cell. They do a lot of different games & the turn out is usually pretty good. Owners are good guys and are players themselves, even though they don't get too that often. We try to go every weekend when we can. Lifeline Tactical comes down every so often & sets up some stuff from their store & they usually do a barbeque for the players.

Hola and welcome to the society, here you will be able to rebuild your airsoft life with threads and threads of new information! Up at the top is a search bar, it will look like this.

One of the greater things about this society is that it's been around FOREVER so you can imagine nearly every simple question has been asked before, such as "what's the best m4 for 150 dollars?", "What's the best brand?", or "Help with DMR build" all that information can be yours (if you're willing to learn that is)!
Alternatively if you have trouble with the search bar, you can try searching via google and attaching "airsoft society" to the end of it. Like so.

Now I don't mean to bully you, and you may be wondering why I'm telling you all this new information, you see around here we have had rash of new guys who always ask the same questions, and to be frank, it gets old. So I'm just making you're aware of all this the second you join, so you can help us avoid some of the trouble. Get em while they're young, know what I'm saying?

Oh make sure to read the rules! http://www.airsoftsociety.com/forums/f10/announcement-rules-regulations.html

Do you have any tech experience by chance? Techs are always a nice addition to the forum; we always have people asking about builds and people who need help fixing their gun. If you're not that's perfectly fine as well! Hang around here long enough and you'll probably try something or other with your gearbox. One note on posting although, another thing people have a tendency to do when they join (and even some members who've been around a while) is give out poor or simply incorrect information, don't be afraid to share your experiences or opinion, but if you get into a factual argument, please please make sure your facts are right for example please don't post things along the lines of

U should get the Lancer Tactical it has 400 fps out of the box and is an awesome gun look at reviews on utube
First off that would violate the rules which state to use proper spelling and grammar, so let's go ahead and add that in.

You should get the Lancer Tactical, it has 400 FPS out of the box and is an awesome gun, look at the reviews on Youtube.
This is better, at least you aren't violating any rules with this, however one of the first things you should learn is that FPS doesn't mean nearly as much as people would like to believe, for example the difference in range between 350 FPS and 380 FPS is negligible. So that isn't really a selling point, also when you think about it that post really doesn't describe much about the gun! Let's try making it a non arguable statement with some more details. A good format (when recommending something) is to find several things you like about the gun and make note of at least one thing you didn't like, this way people can see you're trying to be non biased, for example, I'm much more likely to believe the guy saying "Yeah I personally love goldenball bbs, they get me fantastic range, but I have spotted a high rate of bbs with bubbles in them." than the guy who says, "Goldenball bbs are awesome, they get me fantastic range!" Now adding that all into this quote.

I have the Lancer Tactical, and while I admit the body is indeed of low quality, the gearbox has been running great for over 5200 rounds now, and I haven't had any problems, although the battery it comes with should be replaced, it's crap. I've been getting hits on bodies 170 ft away. Look at the reviews on Youtube!
This is a much better post, however brings me to the last of my points, if you ever tell someone to look for something try to provide a link. If there are several lancer tactical reviews he may find a crap one where a guy fires 5 shots at a paper target on his trash bin some 15 feet away. To avoid this, link him.

I have the Lancer Tactical, and while I admit the body is indeed of low quality, the gearbox has been running great for over 5200 rounds now, and I haven't had any problems, although the battery it comes with should be replaced, it's crap. Lastly, because some people don't understand the concept we have people called moderators, who hang about the forum policing it and making sure the rules are followed! You may notice them as some of the guys giving threats:D you are going to want to make sure you check the rules to stay out of the way of those guys, those guys being (Currently active Mods off the top of my head)
Sparky D
Knief
NJnewland
The only buster
lil_shady
Unless you have some very solid evidence arguing with any mods isn't a good idea.

That's all for now, read, check out the sales section (classifieds) and post!

I usually use Elite Force bb's. I was debating the .03 & the .01. A couple friends who have been doing this for a while & are pretty good tech's said I would be better off & happier with the .01. We'll see. I was even thinking of getting a longer barrel & adding a suppressor but its long enough as it is. Stock barrel is 515mm.

Unfortunately I am not much of a tech but I hope to change that. Usually pretty good with a set of tools its just learning what parts do what for the gun. Going to go a little at a time.

In most cases I believe a longer barrel does not increase accuracy, your hop up, barrel quality, barrel stability, bore size, and ammo quality does. In fact I believe that after about 590 mm your accuracy starts to get hindered. Some people say a shorter barrel is can be more accurate because they are more stable.
