Correct process of testing air nozzle length

I am trying to wrap up a gearbox build and have several different nozzle lengths. I am looking to find what the correct nozzle length is for this current setup.

I could go through the build list if that is needed but it is more of a general question than item specific question.

How do you determine what the right length is?

I currently have the gearbox without the gears in it. The cyl, cyl head, tappet plate, tappet plate spring and nozzle are installed. This keeps the nozzle full forward. I have my barrel, bucking, chamber and chamber clip installed with zero hop. When I push the chamber against the gearbox/nozzle, the nozzle pushes a bb through the bucking lips every time. Is this the wrong process?

I thought that the bb was supposed to perch on the lips of the bucking until the piston is released and the air pushed the bb through the lip . Maybe I am thinking of it wrong. Idk.

Thanks in advance .

I dont know if I can entirely go off of the stock size nozzle. My factory tappet plate was bent towards the cylinder head, pulling the nozzle rearward out of the chamber. Also the stock nozzle had a bad o ring and 1mm or 1.5mm orings wouldn't fit. So I bought new nozzles. Really only the gearbox, gears and motor are stock. Everything else is aftermarket. I've tried fitment between 3 different chambers, 6 different buckings and 3 different barrels.
Due to the lack of attention this thread has generated, I guess I will have to slap everything together and just see how it feeds and shoots with each one. I dont want to modify any part until I verify that it needs to be.

I'm sure that this is a pretty noob issue but really i haven't found any info on part verification from either google searches, youtube or forums.

Anyways I suppose I'll report back if I get any useable info from the chrono

Ok I'll check that out. My stock nozzle was 21.14mm and my longest one is 21.25mm. I was unsure as what to look for or how to go about determining the best length for my setup. I hate part slapping anything without justification. Will post back late .

So I tried the 21.25mm, with the spring out, piston out, gun upside down and 1 bb in the feed tube, the nozzle was popping the bb out of the feed tube towards the magwell. So I dropped down to the 21.0m . With the 21mm i initially had the same problem until I realized that without the compression spring, the motor was over spinning. So i turned on active braking to 100% and it fed like a champ. Getting ready to pop the 21.25 back in and try it with the new settings.

Well that worked. 50 shots, fed perfect everytime and fps was +/- 4 so I'm happy. Sorry to annoy certain people on the forum. Yes I did over complicate things but I didnt know any better so oh well.

Now I just need to volume match this new cyl, lap my barrel and re-do my r hop and I may be happy.

Again, Thanks for the advice.

Oh, for any other noobs such as myself, the correct length nozzle is the longest nozzle that correctly feeds with full pressure of the magazine (mid cap in my case).

I pulled the compression spring and piston out, flipped the gun upside down and dropped 1 bb in the feed tube. Then cycled the trigger and watched. When that works put everything in and check with a full mag.

For my vfc avalon with maxx cyl head, maxx nozzle, retro arms tappet plate, and stock vfc hop chamber, it ended up being a 21.00mm.
