The gen 2 Lancers aren't bad internally. They might be OEM'd by JG. A few things should be replaced, such as the nozzle and motor if you want just a basic but good performance gun. G&G is ok if you leave it stock. Once you start upgrading, you've got to change a lot of parts. They're polymer externals are good, IIRC the gen2 Lancers aren't bad either.
I went with the G&G for my first gun. I was actually having the exact same debate in my mind between Lancer and G&G when I was getting into airsoft. The ABS plastic on the Lancer is what swayed me towards G&G, seems too flimsy on the Lancer Tactical.
I would complete agree with you if that was still the case but youtubers, airsoft magestore, and airsoft GI. Claim that the second generation of lancer M4 rifles are make of Nylon Polymer and Metal. So with the price of the lancer vs the G&G I'm more leaning to the lancer being that they are now made of the same materials.
Definitely Lancer. They are great guns for what they are priced at. I still use mine and love it and have been in for a bit. Plus an added bonus of buying a Lancer is that you will still have some money to get extra mags or a vest or something
I've mostly heard bad things about lancer, i use a G&G cm16 mod 0 and it performs very well for how cheap it was. The polymer externals are insanely tough also.
G&G is just one of the most reliable brands out there, they never disappoint
