Before you do, check to see if it has a set screw and a small pin that holds it on. Many guns come with a set screw, usually an allen wrench is required to remove it. However, due to many people removing the orange tips, when they should not, many manufacturers have started putting a second pin that cannot be removed, at least not easily, in the tip near the set screw. If you do not remove both the pin and set screw, you WILL strip your threads and ruin your barrel. One of my teammates did this and now his tip won't stay on, it works its way off as he shoots because the end is badly stripped.

To remove the pin, you will have to dig it out or drill it out, both will cause some damage to the tip, but if done properly, only minor damage. Only after the pin and screw are removed would it be advisable to attempt to remove the tip by turning it.

While I am of the belief that removing the orange tip is not advisable, to each their own. However, I often recommend that you simply cover it rather than remove it.

One way to do so is to use a 3/4" CPVC straight connector, or two depending on the length of your tip. You can buy them at any hardware store, Home Depot, or Lowes.

Inside of the connector is a ridge, it must be removed to slide over the entire tip. Paint the connector black and drill a small hole in the end closest to the barrel. Use a tap to thread the hole and add a small set screw, also available at the same places. If you need to use two connectors, glue them together using CPVC cement, also available at these places.

I have built several mock silencers with a similar method that simply cover the tip and are held on using set screws, this way you can still transport the gun without removing the tip and still play without having an orange tip on your gun.

In the end, it is a win/win situation.
