Wanted to get your guys opinions. A friend has been working on a project he calls a post-apocolyptic sniper rifle. Check ou these pics and post your opinions, feed back, and any other comments you may have. He's trying to start a custom gun company and this is one of a few projects he has created.

interesting idea. That being said if he wants to make money doing it, then he will need to work on his finishing touches. It doesn't look professional. There are features i like, such as the "holy rusted metal batman". It is creative, but i doubt people would pay money for that quality of work.

Pretty much my opinion. I know it's supposed to be an apocalypse gun but it just isn't very elegant or smooth. It just looks like some metal that's been welded together. (That's just what it reminds me of)

I like it, it's pretty cool how creative people can get when it comes to externals.

However, there are some things I would work on, so here's a little pro/con list of using my opinions:

Pros:
-Nice rusted look(mentioned before me)
-Looks sturdy
-Paint job is well done

Cons:
-Looks a little too "boxy". Maybe he should make the edges and corners rounder.

-Foregrip on the side looks out of place IMO. The entire gun is rusted, while the foregrip is pure black. I kind of think that leaving that rail empty will make the gun nicer in appearance.

-Metal and material at the end of the barrel look a little messy. Maybe fix that up a bit, or you could just change the rusted mesh out and put a

1).long, metal rod(mimics rods used in older muskets and rifles that used gun powder, that'll make this gun look very antique. You'll probably need to put a barrel or something to hold the rod.),

2).put another barrel in there and act cool

Or 3).cover the part with metal and and solder it.

Overall, very nice project, but could use some finishing touches.

I think it looks pretty cool. Good quality for custom garage work. I'd love to see more projects in the future.

I agree with some points and not sure about others. However, as far as I know, it is still scheduled for some additional weathering and other touches to make it look used and abused, which is the look he is going for in the end. I suggested adding some odds and ends pieces, such as burlap held on by plastic wire ties or bailing wire, to give it that pieced together look.

After all, if it is supposed to be post apocalyptic, then is should look thrown together from junk, scraps, and other scavenged items. As it stands, it does look too fresh in some places and too old in others. I would also add an old leather sling instead of something more modern. Think Mad Max/Road Warrior style weapon.

I'll post more pics when they become available.

Why is the gun so much box-shaped? It makes no sense in a world where your survival depends on how fast you run and how well you can blend in?

Because, you know, if I were to build my own gun from scraps, I would make it as light as possible.

You see, it is not easy to build a gun without the proper tools (not that it is easy with the tools), but those who would have built them would make them as simple as possible, because obviously, you need machinery to make sophisticated things. I therefore highly doubt a post-apocalyptic gun would look like that.

That aside, the gun looks good, and I can tell a lot of work was put into that project, but it does not make sense. I have been looking for a couple years now into how people would rebuild a society after it collapsed and have written a paper on it at the Uni. And what your friend is doing does not seem probable or even possible. But then again, I know it is just an airsoft project.

I can try to translate the paper, so you can all have look at it if you want.

It reminds me of the Harkonnen Gun that Seras Victoria used to have in the Hellsing manga :) Good job!

Can't answer that one Shifty, just the way he did it I guess. Either that or he didn't have the right tools to shape it otherwise. That's as good as I can figure.
I think the boxiness could potentially add to it.. But I would slim the profile down, especially on the stock. In thickness and width

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think its just a gas powered L96 base gun. He calls it a Mauser something or other, but I'm not sure exactly what the base gun was. I do know that it is mostly cosmetic, so I don't know how much of the original gun was modified, if at all.

But he could have still potentially made it a little smaller right? Depending on the base gun

I think he was going for the larger scale as an intimidation factor. I do know the gun made its debut at WarDen Airsoft in Stone Creek, OH earlier this month. It did have a bit of wow factor, but since I wasn't there, I have only my friend's word as to what happened.

I know the owner of WarDen is on these forums, so it would be nice to hear from him.

My friend also debuted my body armor suit this day, I hear it made quite an impression as well, but again, no other confirmation as of yet.

Oooo I understand. Does he have any upgrades in the gun?

I don't think so, he got the base gun of another friend or ours. Funny story, when he got the gun, there was no mag, the guy who sold it to him couldn't find it. After a week of searching, my buddy was going through some bio bbs the guy gave him with the gun and there was the mag buried in the bb container. So, he had it the entire time and didn't know it, and the other guy didn't remember putting it in there so he spent a week looking for something he would never find.

OOPS!:D

Heh. That's funny, small thing happen to my friends L96. I talked him out of it, so we spent all day searching for the other mag. And he wanted to shoot it one more time before he returned it, then we found it.

Project owner

First off, I bought a sheet of steel for $25 dollars, I don't have a metal bender so doing extreme custom body work wasnt an option, the welder burnt through the steal so i had to hand soder the entire rifle body together, I rushed to get it together for my halloween costume since I' am in the military i don't have a whole lot of time to spend on body mods until im on leave time. But that's besides the point, anyway the body and all that assumed was my origional design some based off of my friend on deviant art who had drawn me a custom rifle design for my costume, the rifle paint is not set in stone. The rifle will be revised and its 5 foot long and weights approx, 15 lbs but its functional and clears 500 FPS with .20g I need to go to .30 or higher to gain accuracy and percision with a 4-16X50 scope.

Ehhh, I don't think I like it much. I think if he wants to try and get money off something like this, he needs to replicate real guns. I would pay good money for a half way decent sterling, sks, or full sized sxs shotgun.

#23 ·
ok one thing straight, this is a one off project, It's not for sale and i will not replicate it. All AKD Weapons built for the employees are one off models built to there specs.

By the way, AKDRHINO is the creator of this gun project.

As he has stated, it is a one off; however, I am trying to showcase his skills and abilities. Constructive criticism, as provided by several members, is welcome; however, please remember that it is difficult to determine intentions of a person based solely on their written words. I would hate for a misunderstanding to create issues or cause this thread to be closed. Therefore, I would like to insert a friendly reminder to any responders to be mindful of their word choice and consider how those words present their intentions to others.

AKDRHINO and I will be working on some additional projects in the near future; however, I will post those in my Ongoing Projects thread. (Link in my signature)

To be honest, you ask for peoples opinions. You may not like what others have to say. We shouldn't sugar coat our answers just because you don't want to get your feelings hurt. That would defeat the purpose of a thread like that. That being said I tried to give constructive critisizm along with my overall dislike of the quality. There are good points and bad. If you can't take the bad, then don't ask what people think about it.

There is a large difference between expressing constructive criticism through one's opinion and being outright insulting, which is why I kindly reminded everyone, not any particular person, to be mindful of their word choice. Words such as "hate," "first of all," or "let's get this straight" can construe an unwanted emotional response that is neither intended nor expressed. Furthermore, one does not need to sugar coat an opinion if it is stated with honesty and respect, as many of the responses in this thread have been; however, even then, proper word choice extends a courtesy that is expected in these forums and upheld by the moderators.

To this point, many of the responders have been quite courteous; however, some have been borderline. As I do seek honest and constructive opinions, I would not wish to see this thread closed because those opinions created issues, such as unnecessary debate or outright flaming. Therefore, again, a friendly reminder was posted by me to avoid such situations.

Neo, if you feel this reminder was directed at you, I am sorry, it was not. Your responses have been above board the entire time, do not take any offense from the reminder. However, if you reread certain posts, I'm sure you'll understand why I posted it.

That said, let us return to the original purpose of the thread and discuss the gun itself.

As AKD stated, the gun was originally for a costume he plans to wear for Halloween, with that in mind, he has begun construction of a helmet to compliment the costume. It is still a work in progress to the best of my knowledge as we have discussed potential improvements to the current state of the helmet. I should add that the mask paint job is permanent and will not be changed, lest it bring the wrath of the original artist down on AKD. :D

Any suggestions?
