Depends on the maker. Many are not well made, plastic gears is not good for excessive starting and stopping under load.

Price will have to be your guide. Cheaper = lower quality.

TM Makes the best...it's a double drum, but it only holds 1200 bbs.

My vote goes to ICS and maybe G&P. My ICS C Mag has been going strong for 3+ years without any issue. This may be a tad bit harder to get nowadays though.
My G&P Attack drum has around 2 years of use without hiccups so far.
The cheaper $30-$55 ones can really be poorly made. I have gone through several of them and have tried doing my own stuff to make them better. Not worth the hassle or money.

I have "played" one day of Airsoft and in the hole about $1200 so far.....
What is another $150? :p

Not in a huge rush as the 100+ degree temps are slowing things down for the next 2 months
This M27 is a bit on the heavy side, moreso with all the stuff attached to it.

I am running out of spare goodies tho.

I hear that. Mostly sticking with indoors during the summer even though it's still hot as sin. Thankfully it also means I can push back some of my project guns destined for outdoors a little bit more.

If you are running the VFC Umarex H&K M27, just remember that the mag well is straighter than most M4's, so chances are good that you will have to do some modification to make it fit properly. The one I run is the Angel Custom 2000 round Thunderstorm and it has worked perfectly for the past two years. I did purchase a second M4 adapter so that it fits better in other M4's when I need to swap out (takes about two minutes to change). Hope this helps!

I will look into that.
Battery powered or hand crank?

ETA: 9 volt.

I bet that would be great to have when setting up a solid defensive position.
About 3 of those and, well..... LOL, would be fun if I lasted that long before getting hit.

I'm running the 9V Thunderstorm (well, basically because I'm lazy) although I have used the Firestorm "flashmag" where you pull the cord on the bottom. Both good; the 9V is easier but makes more noise than the flashmag version. Since I'm old and slow, being able to put down a consistent cover / suppressive fire without having to swap mags is nice. Besides, I like the raised eyebrows from the other players!
