It's my first post and it's for a good cause...

I'm currently going to PSU to become an Software Engineer, well for my grad project I wanted to create an iPhone app and figured why not create a useful app for the Airsoft community.

*I play with a small group of friends out in Portland on the weekends.

Please vote and help me decide what to develop. Thanks!

I like the teammate tracker idea. Would be very useful in my opinion, that and a Magpul Iphone case and your set :p. For those who wouldn't want to bring that expensive Iphone out into the field, I think the next best app would be the chronograph app, although I think it would be really hard to do that, deal/product search would be nice if updated regularly, as would local events and national op notifications.

I would love the see a WORKING Chrono app, but there's too many things to factor in and you'll have TONS of user error and mis-input

The inventory app... bleh that's why I have a camera phone ;)

The teammate tracker would only work if your other teammates actually play with their smartphone. I personally make it a habit to not... Have had a few screens shot.

The part comparison and dealer finder would be awesome. There's been quite a few times where I'm traveling to new fields and unfamiliar locations and want to see what the local shops have to offer. Be sure to include a review of each store.

There's alreadt a game/event locater website and it's pretty bleh. It was big for about a week, then nothing. Airbana - World Wide Airsoft Map

one idea

A combination of the Inventory and Parts Comparison/Deal Finder would be pretty handy.

If one could convince the manufacturers to include a serial in the form of a 2D barcode on the receiver of a gun (or this could be something an end-user prints out and attaches to or keeps with the rifle), you could use this barcode to track the parts installed.

And if any part should require replacement, you could scan or enter the code into the app, check off what parts you need, then search for replacements at various retailers.

This could be a neat way to gain insight into someone's setup!

Then you might be able to expand on this with user reviews of the parts, track history of parts that have been installed in a build and how effectively a part performed.

Just a few ideas

Far as a tracker there is already an "app" based on that called "Battletac" BattleTac - MilSim GPS Tracking that can be used for that purpose. It is compatible with most normal java based phones as well.

Someone on ASM has made an android app as well for the fps/J conversion as well (Unsure of iPhone compatibility). A good game/field locator would be useful but would require input from field owners.

Look up Airsoft App, It does just about everything here. Then I also have a paintball app for RPS/RPM. The Teammate tracker would be inaccurate (if it used the Iphone GPS system) and the Event locator would be the coolest thing EVAR!

The chrono app would be next to impossible to pull off, the teammate tracker app needs a much more accurate gps than the iPhone has unless your playing on a big field, and most people don't play with their smartphones(lost many a smartphone screen to airsoft) an app that guides you in upgrading your guns and helps you decide what to upgrade would be GREAT though.

A lot of phones have pretty accurate GPS sensors and are not like the iphone, BattleTac - MilSim GPS Tracking runs on most java based phones and can be run from Android and Iphones, native support is not on the Iphone or Android though. Battletac does more than just showing location as well, I'd recommend checking it out; I got it running on a rumor touch, slow but works fine other than a few color problems.

A "Teammate tracker" can only easily be achieved with those purpose built systems but they cost a ton and don't work any better than a phone with battletac on it (You do avoid monthly fees though).

Whoever made it would have to have a LOT of experience with every single brand of gun, parts, etc. As well, the app would constantly have to be updated as new and better stuff came out. It wouldn't work to well. It'd be better to join a forum and ask questions.

Also: There already is a airsoft inventory app.

I never said it would be easy or simple.

A chrono app seems to be the majority's vote. Are you really going to try to attempt this?
