Is WD-40 a good replacement for silicon spray?
I would get silicon spray if i could, but I can't for personal reasons.

But I did find a stick, yes, a stick, of easy apply WD-40, and on the back it says useful for guns, but I'm not so sure about airsoft.

Thanks!

Absolutely not.

Do not use WD-40 on any part of an Airsoft gun, especially the internals of the gearbox. Always remember, that with how much you pay for your Airsoft guns, it's always worth it to spend a little bit extra on legitimate Silicon lubricant, as opposed to water-based WD-40.

Also, always remember that when dealing with the internals of an Airsoft gun gearbox (if the gun is an AEG), do not use anything other than Silicon grease, or gear grease, bought from an Airsoft retailer.

I know that this may sound like a marketing ploy to get you to buy things from an Airsoft retailer, but unless you want to have to keep servicing your Airsoft gun, and replacing parts for it, it's better to spend the extra money on the proper lubricants.

I hope this helps.

Okay, what exactly are you trying to lubricate on the gun in question? Motor oil, even though it says "motor" in the name, is going to do nothing but destroy your AEG motor if you apply it to it, and it will do the same to your gearbox internals. Rubbing, or "cleaning" alcohol is going to destroy any o-rings that are on the internals of your gearbox, and it has been known to remove the finish off of metal, and in some cases, even plastic.

My position stands; buy yourself Silicon Lubricant, and Gear Grease.

If you are trying to clean the exterior of the gun, use a dry cloth to remove any excess dirt, and any stuck on dirt, scrub it off with a toothbrush (not the one that you brush your teeth with). Then, just wipe it down with a damp cloth, drying it off with a dry, clean cloth afterwards. If you want to protect the metal on your gun after cleaning it, apply a light coating of Remington Gun Oil.

as far as gearbox grease is concerned you can also use mmolybdenum grease (also available at your auto store), white lithium (gets gunky after a while. You'll have to service on a regular basis. purchased at your auto mart), ceramic grease(some rc hobby shops or online. very slick stuff, but expensive).Just make sure none of the produsts you choose contain petroleum distillates. It should say on the tube or can "warning contains....".

As far as silly oil is concerned READ the can. some 3 in 1 silicon sprays still contain petroleum products.

When you're more experienced you can try a dry lube technique using graphite lube (not in the gearbox but other moving tidbits).

Actually, it's SILICON, but you get the idea.

Anything else will **** up your gun.
not to be anal, but it is SILICONE, not silicon....wikipedia it, and remember, you cant correct someone who is already correct:p

silicones are polymers, such as a silicone oil.

silicon is a metalliod element, its a solid, not a liquid.
