What color of Smoke to use?

Hey everyone!

So I have been looking into the use of smoke grenades and so I wanted to do some research.

I would be using these mainly for cover (to advance/retreat or flank the enemy)

I would prefer to avoid white smoke as it could alarm the public and make them think there is a real fire.

MY big question is this.... What color of smoke gives the best concealment for Woodland or/and urban fields?

I tried to find some info via google about colors and how we process them to see if I could find an answer. But after hours I have no more info then when I started.

I would love to pick up a pack of smoke grenades in all the colors and test it in a controlled experiment... but I have no money to spend atm on this.

I would think green in woodland and blue in Urban would be best but that is just my hunch.

PLease feel free to throw out your thoughts and if you have any scientific info on this please share.

I should first remind everyone that the discussion of pyrotechnics is not permitted on the forum.

Personally, I've always preferred cold/cool burning grenades. Rather than focusing on colors, I look for grenades that release the thickest smoke. Color is pointless if it's thin and quickly floats away. That being said, when I was into smoke grenades, I'd get SportSmoke cool-burning smoke grenades. They have pretty consistently thick smoke that tends to float fairly low, rather than going straight up. Though to be clear, I'd really only use the grenade to assist a retreat and to act as a defense to block an attacking enemy to see defensive movement and re-positioning.

I've used white, black, blue, and orange and honestly all work more or less the same. Not huge difference from my point of view. If you get a nice thick smoke producing grenade, you'll quickly see that the color doesn't make a big difference.

Many of the tact used in airsoft have been used and perfected by military throughout the decades all over the world. The United States ARMY will tell you that white smoke is best for concealment because it reflects the most light. I highly recommend a cold smoke grenade because it is thicker and stays lower to the ground longer instead of classic WWII gas grenades which military still use today. Always buy and use gas that is not harmful to the environment and people. Hope this helps.
